Default E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial Uni. $1,004,328,700 $435,110,554 1982^

Wasn't ET a much better movie than anything today?

S Sp at his peak? The cast. The Story. John Williams music.
The tons of tissues used over the years. The memorable iconic images.

Timeless.

Timeless is that you can view it 30 years later and it's still
perfection.

I was at my work christmas party a few weeks ago and ihad a "bit to much"and one of the attorneys in my office is named Elliot, ao I walked over to him and started saying "Elllliot" in an ET voice to him all night.

Funny how a movie will stick with you for so many years.

I think this forum is more adequate for Movie discussion.

And to answer you, I don't really agree, even though I enjoy E.T. very much, other movies are placed a lot higher on my "epic" list.

The message conveyed in it is universal and eternal that's for sure.

This is a very sweet little movie that I like very much, but there are certainly other Spielberg films I like better.
Spielberg is very good working with kids and it definately shows here.

It's a shame, but if this movie had been released today,it probably would be in and out of theaters in a few weeks, but back in '82 it was HUGE.

I would have to disagree. I could come up with about 1000 movies better then this at least. But Im glad you like it. To each his own.

Yeah, I'm with you to on this one. I remember when I was in preschool, and they would sometimes put E.T. on and my memory of it is not one of awe, but of fear. I was genuinely terrified of E.T. This thing with the huge head, long neck and that horrible roar it would make. That movie scared me more than anything and I have no idea why people think he's cute or that it's such a wonderful film. Maybe now that I'm older, I'd might like it,but for me as a kid, it had the opposite effect.

My all time favorite ROBOT CHICKEN sketch, next to The Emperor getting the call from Vader about the first Death Star destruction and Dave gassing the Chimpmunks, is the one where you see E.T. return home, and find out he's the equivalent of a handicapped kid and the sketch ends with the other E.T's kicking him out on a desolate planet and him saying to one of the xenomorphs from the ALIEN movies "Friend?"

While I love E.T. when I first saw it, the appeal wore off after a few times seeing it. I never bought E.T. on VHS nor DVD and I doubt very much I will buy it in BD as well.

I think this was a good move.

The problem today is money. They know certain movies that spawn sequels or big effects will draw revenue. Lets face it, studios need to make money. E.T. is storytelling at its best. Great direction, art, character devolpment, charters you care about, etc.

Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet The Spartans, Diaster Movie etc all get made and approved because they are made for 20 million and by the time they are in the movies, dvd and blu ray rental and sales plus world widfe they make triple their budgets. Hollywood makes more.

Then you have the general poublic. They won't go out and see Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler where he does a phonemnal job because they hate pro wrestling or thinking movies, though they will gladly line up to see Martin Lawerence, tyler perry dress up like a fat black woman and think the movie is hilarious. People watch movies just as well as they vote.
