I think we can safely expect them to hit the BD format as it's the 30th anniversary this year. They aired all six movies in high definition on Cinemax back in November, they have to be preparing these movies for the Blu-Ray.
After all, you know George Lucas can't resist the urge to screw us over and over with re-releasing the Star Wars saga for the 1,034,033,102,108th time with new bonus features. At least he captioned the special features on the DVD format. Not only that, I believe they're working on re-releasing all of the movies in 3-D this year at the theatres with digital projectors. |

I don't think we'll see the Saga for a while to be honest, it is too early. There isn't the market penetration for HD yet to make it worth while, and on top of that Lucas has released the original trilogy twice now in the last two years.
Another release now would be too much even for the die hard fans! I don't think we'll see these films for another couple of years. |

There are definitely 1080p transfers of these film around, but whether Lucas will release onto BD is another story. I doubt Fox will OK a release until they are sure that BD will definitely win, it would be a major upset for BD to lose and have Star wars already released, but it could happen, so this will most likely be a post-war release.

Aggressive and confident support of the format is what is needed at this stage. HD DVD lost that early with Warner and Paramount. And Warner is further eroding it this year with their catch-up pledge. And Universal has pretty much already released their hits for the last five years. They will have to be dipping into the all-time classics to keep anything going there. Gary |

There are those that would argue that the studios don't want to release their big titles like Star Wars and The Matrix when the market is so small, but what is the point in waiting? 'If you build it, they will come', if you ask me. Having an exclusive like the original Star Wars Trilogy on BD stacked on the shelves right next to the PS3 and the stand-alone BD players is how you build the market, IMO, not sitting around with your hands under your butts waiting until just the right moment to maybe possibly release the big titles. ![]() |

That, and for Star Wars, as others said, they rereleased the original trilogy twice over the past few years, with that title at least, they're run dangerously close to heavily annoying their fanbase on that premise alone. Can always hope the Star Wars 3d remakes are planned to go BD though ![]() |

I AM one of those dorks who dress up in armor for the 501st (Star Wars Stormtrooper fan club), and I must say, I'd buy a BD player and the movies again, and I KNOW a lot of others who would do the same. We ARE crazy about those movies, but not as crazy as those Star Trek guys

I thought Lucas was a HD DVD supporter and has exclusive rights for what gets released??? but then there is the problem that its done by fox and they are exclusive Blu-ray supporters, kindof like that "one" movie from universal in japan..
correct me if im wrong but I thought I read that a while back. |

With few HD DVD having the bandwidth available for lossless audio? This is George (50% of the movie is in the sound) Lucas we're talking about, right? Gary P.S. Several of the PS/3 demos and games show THX certification. Is that done on Xbox 360 too? |

I'm just being realistic, I'm a fan too and will buy them in HD, but I really don't think they will get a release anytime soon

These are "post format war" titles, although I'd love to see a shocker slip through early to help get things wrapped up that much sooner. |
