i have a laptop with a blu-ray player and if i try to connect it to my tv using an hdmi connection and play a movie it gives me an error message, i think the problem is that when its playing on both devices the disc thinks im trying to pirate it, and ideas of what i can do to get it to work. thanks

Have you tried shutting the laptop and using the TV as your single monitor? This would require an external KB/mouse, but would take care of the cloned screen issue. If that doesn't work I'd post in the pc area as it gets more traffic by folks who know what's needed- you're basically running into an HDCP issue.
