Being my first plasma set, what cables/connectors/accessories do I really need? Will be using a Sony receiver/Klipsch 5.1 and haven't researched BluRay player.
thanks for the help. |

I have the 58PZ850, and an older Sony receiver (1000ES). I decided to go with the Panasonic BD-55, and run analog audio from the 55 to the receiver. Works great for me.
I'm considering upgrading the receiver, but waiting to find a better price on one that passes full RGB (0-255) as the ones in my price range clip the video on the pass-through the receiver. If you're considering a new receiver, then the Panasonic BD-35 will work fine, though there's some rumor that it's being discontinued. |

Yeah, alot of people are. Your getting so much bang for your buck why not. I know for fact that the Panasonic BD35 is already end of life which means stores will not be stocking it anymore, and I heard that the Sony 350 is very close to its end of life. So that leaves you still paying $399 for a blu-ray, hence a PS3 is still your best option.

I would do a PS3 for a blu-ray player... and get the bluetooth remote with it also. It is fast and conforms to all the blu standards. You may want to connect from the PS3 to a 7.1 receiver (like a denon 3808) and get some nice speakers of your choice. The options are limitless. It will depend what you like to do most... movies/music/etc etc

Will Direct TV bring an HDMI cable to connect their DVR/receiver or will I need to purchase one? Is the gold plated deal (monster or not) overkill?

...also the cable is probably a category 1 cable...in which case is not worth its weight in pennies. |
