Default What If Its Filmed In 720p ?

Say the show Lost for example is shot in 720p, will they convert it to 1080p when they release it on Blu-ray? or just leave it at 720p.

Lost is shot on film. So it can produced on BD at 1080P/24 with no problem.

Most HD shows, like concerts, that are shot using HD cameras are usually shot at 1080i. So the BD version will be 1080i.

If it's shot at 720p, then it'll be 720p. Your HDTV can handle the upconversion, if you want it to.

Most HD TV series are shot using film and since they are most probably will be broadcast in HD, they'll telecine, edit and master in 1080p.

Lost was broadcasted in 720p I think, but as fuad said anything shot on film can be transfered to 1080, in fact Lost might been mastered in 1080p and downrezed to 720p for broadcast.
I think the Lost on BD Spanish press release mentioned something to that effect saying the BD would be the best version, better than what had been seen before.

Now what about something that only exists on 720p? well that can be left at 720 or upconverted to 1080. In any case there's gonna be an upconversion at some point if you watch it on a 1080 display. either the transfer is upconverted, the player upconverts it or the display upconverts it.

Probably if the material is truly 720 60p (shot at 60 frames per second) it may be left in 720.
The only BD I've seen to date that has 720 material is Relentless Enemies which has the brief National Geographic intro in 720.

Chris Beveridge reports one of his animé titles from Japan is in 720 too.
