Default Monoprice Wall Mounts

Monoprice has wallmounts for big ass TVs for like $20. How are these different than the $80+ dollar ones I see for sale everywhere?

Anyone use one of these? I ordered a low-profile model.

Monoprice has ZERO overhead.

They have a dude with a computer taking your orders, a slavegirl named Suki to send you e-mails and a 5-year-old Vietnamese boy named Yum Yum building everything by hand.

Trust me...the quality is sick. I don't know how they will ship your brackets, but when you get cables from them, they come in a recycled box that they probably received for Yum Yum's weekly food supply.

They cut costs by any means necessary. Even at Yum Yum's expense.

I don't know about you, but I am oddly comfortable with that.

To answer the OP, Monoprice's wall mounts are great. I ordered one for my 46" Sharp LCD to mount over my fireplace. It is very sturdy and installation was not hard at all.

I originally bought a Sanus mount from Target for $130 plus tax. After I got home, I thought about checking Monoprice's site. The mount I purchased is what I believe is their strongest and it only cost me $75 plus tax. I got the wall mount from Monoprice in about 3 business days.

I took back the Sanus mount after I got the one from Monoprice installed.

A neighbor of mine just mounted his brand new 52" Samsung LCD with a Monoprice mount and he is very happy too.

Monoprice disproves the thought that you have to overspend to get quality products. I have been buying my cables from them for years now.

Don't feel bad for Yum Yum. I know him. And given the chance, he'd murder you and everyone you care about.

I bought one from Wal-mart for almost triple the price of a Monoprice wall mount and I got 2 different wall mounts from Monoprice that hang my TVs closer to the wall than the Wal-mart one.. Can't find any place cheaper than Monoprice. It's still cheaper than anyplace even with shipping to Canada.

You can actually buy some of the Monoprice mounts in Canada from www.onlybestrated.com. I bought one in December. Here are two of the models they carry:

http://www.onlybestrated.com/adjusta...nch-p-162.html

http://www.onlybestrated.com/adjusta...num-p-175.html

Given the crazy shipping on these mounts to Canada, and the current exchange rate, this is a much cheaper option when buying a monoprice mount.

I use a monoprice tilting mount for my 107 lb plasma. I started a thread on it a few months ago at this link.

Looks like the difference between the mounts from monoprice and sanus are a few things. I know on the Sanus mounts, the thing that stops the tv from sliding off the mount left to right - there is a metal flange on the groove. Where as there are metal tabs on the body of the mount for monoprice.

The metal is also a much heavier guage. I think either way you will be fine. I just didn't trust a $40 dollar mount to hold my $1700 dollar plasma - thats just me though.

I'm confident in the tilting mount I use, and would also have no problem using one of their flush mounts. However, I would be uneasy over the idea of putting my 107lb plasma on one of their full-motion mounts. Just my opinion.

I got one of the monoprice tilting mounts for my 50" plasma. The only advice I'll pass along is that you NEED to replace the lag bolts that secure the mount to the wall. I cracked the head off of one in my wall when I was tightening it down! Replace them with something stronger from your hardware store and save the headache. Otherwise it's plenty sturdy and works well.

Thumbs down Monoprice -- strike that. COSTCO

I think Monoprice is a great company and I recommend them for cables. Excellent quality, prices, and shipping.

But I have not seen the quality on their plasma mounts. The first one I bought was the Monoprice and it seemed ok until my installer was mounting it. One of the cheapass lag bolts broke off in the wall so he had to move the whole thing over and it was off-center. It held the TV ok (123 lb 58" Panny plasma) but I was not comfortable with the bowing that I saw.

The next day I went to CostCo and bought their rack. It was much sturdier and had better hardware. It also has a tilt-up feature that allows you to access cords behind your plasma. (It also tilts down)

Anyway, the Monoprice unit would have been ok for a smaller TV, but I definitely do not recommend them for the heavier plasmas. BTW, it was rated up to 160 lbs on the box.

You can look at my HT gallery to see it.

I keep seeing some of you say that the Monoprice wall mounts are not strong enough for your specific tv/monitor. I think that you guys are not looking at all of Monoprice's mounts. Here is a link to their strongest (and most expensive) mount:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

You will see that it is rated to handle 175 lbs. That should be more than adequate for any tv/monitor outside of the Panasonic 103" plasma.

I purchased this exact mount and hung my 46" LCD on it (over the firsplace I might add). I mounted it myself and find it very strong and sturdy. I will admit that the lag bolts are a little weak. I snapped one of them during installation, so be careful there. As someone suggested, go to Home Depot or Lowe's and get some heavy duty lag bolts.

Besides that, I am stumped as to why the Monoprice wall mounts are getting so much flak here. They have proven over and over that their cables are just as good if not better than Mon$ter.

I am now stepping down from my soapbox, sorry.
