So I replaced my sony kdf42we655 (788p) with a Sammy 50HLS5087 and I had always used component video on my old tv, but decided to give HDMI a whirl on the new tv, mainly because for some reason the ps3 will output 1080p over component, until it comes to BD playback...then it's only 1080i.
So anyways...I hooked up an HDMI cable and noticed something disturbing almost immediately. The dashboard has Greyish blacks and isn't as eyepopping over HDMI. Once you start a movie, it looks fine...but doing anything on the dashboard it seems like the brightness is kicked up from the ps3. Is this a known issue? I switched back to component but left the HDMI connected in case they remedy this...or I figure something out. Also, I can not tell a difference between 1080i & 1080p on my native 1080p set. |
