Default Obama, Spider-Man team up for new Marvel comic

WASHINGTON (AFP) - - Before Barack Obama is sworn in as president and becomes wrapped in the web of US and global politics, he will spin a yarn with Spider-Man in a brand new comic book adventure, Marvel Comics announced Thursday.

"To celebrate the upcoming inauguration of Barack Obama, Marvel is proud to present an all-new story teaming up one of the world's most recognizable political figures with the world's greatest super hero," Marvel said in a statement posted on its website.

Marvel decided to publish the Obama meets Spidey comic, which goes on sale next week, after learning the soon-to-be president of the United States is a long-time fan of the web-spinning super hero.

"When we heard that president-elect Obama is a collector of Spider-Man comics, we knew that these two historic figures had to meet in our comics' Marvel Universe," said Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada.

"A Spider-Man fan moving into the Oval Office is an event that must be commemorated in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man," he said.

The story takes place in Washington on January 20, the day of Obama's inauguration, and involves one of Spider-Man's oldest foes trying to prevent Obama taking the oath of office, according to Marvel.

The comic -- number 583 in the Amazing Spider-Man series -- will go on sale on January 14.

Stephen Colber said something to the effect of:

"Obama is way worse than a closet terrorist sympathizer...he's a closet nerd."

... This has nothing to do with movies or television. Perhaps this forum needs just a "Pop Culture" section or something...?

This thread belongs in the Off Topic section or no where at all as it deals with politics.

great! two bland things come together to create something even blander. just when i thought the spider man comics couldn't get even worse they go all dc gimmicky on us. oh well. maybe the story will be good. and by the way this is an attack on spider man and how the comics have gone down hill after one more day. or with one more day. depending on how you look at it.

A president who uses a Blackberry and reads Marvel comics...
Or the son of a president who had never seen a grocery store barcode scanner in his life...

...I'll take the Spidey fan, and make a guess that Bill Clinton liked the X-Men movies too.
