I missed it at the theaters, so I'm definitely blind-buying Australia. Love both Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman!

Thumbs down

I found 'Australia' to be uninspired, manipulative, cliched, and less than epic; despite the performances of the 2 main leads. On a positive note, it is a very good looking film, which should provide for a great BD experience, assuming it receives a top tier transfer.

I had just read in the paper that Kidman was not happy w/ her performance in that movie and was trying to distance herself from it.

This movie does not help at all in showing the real image of Australia. Alot of Australians here don't like it but then again you will always have those Australians that feel like they got to act patriotic and give this movie 10 out of 10.

I am hesitant about actually BUYING it on blu ray but I would rent it to see if its worth. It bombed at the B.O. I used to love Nicole Kidman but she does nothing but garbage.

any word on baz luhrmann's moulin rouge or romeo and juliet? I was hoping they'd release at least one of these along side australia. This would seem like the time to do it...

To be fair she was more talking about not liking watching herself in movies - which plenty of actors say. I think she mentioned Eyes Wide Shut as being the last film she watched herself in, before Australia. She said she only went to the premiere for Baz Luhrmann.

I haven't seen the film, but most I know that have say she is fine in it

Heard lots of good things. Sure its fine.

My strategy is to rent Australia first and then buy on sale if it's worth adding to my collection. There is a lot of controversy about this film.

I've been asking the same question too! Dying to get 'Moulin Rouge' especially on blu, as well as 'Romeo & Juliet'! Really love Baz Luhrmann's work.

Would it not be safer to rent and see it first? Just wondering?

normally i dont jump on the critical consensus...but Kidman herself went on record saying she was not proud to be in this movie and could not make an emotional connection to it whatsoever.

i'll be renting first....

Add me to that list. Far from a perfect film but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Perhaps I had lower expectations after the trouncing it received by critics. I felt the same way about Nicole Kidman's other epics, "Far and Away," and "Cold Mountain." The critics were pretty rough on both of them and I again was entertained—something I can't say about other films the critics have embraced. I'll be picking it up for sure.

i'll give it a rent but it sounds kinda fishy to me...
It has been well reported that her comments were taken out of context. The whole story is BS.

Australia is one of the most underrated films of the year, it's a great film that I cannot wait to add to my Blu-ray library.
