Default How long does an HD restoration take ?

Can anybody please tell me how long does it take for movie companies to prep and restore a Bluray release for movies that are already available on DVD ?

Thx

From various articles I've read it took over a year to restore the Godfather trilogy. I'm sure it has a great deal to do with how much the studio is willing to spend & what shape the original master is in.

Months or longer.
The Blade Runner restoration took almost 7 years.
That involved getting it ready for re-release theatrically first.
Getting it on Disc from there much less time.

Alot will depend on the shape and age of the prints they have to work with.
6 to 12 months would be ballpark I think.

A number of Blu-rays (and DVDs) have featurettes on their restoration as special features. One that comes to mind is the James Bond movie DR NO which features a look at the restoration for the entire 007 series by Lowry Digital.

A lot of movies aren't getting the high tech remastering that these folks are talking about.

If you're waiting on a certain movie to hit BD that's already on DVD, it's far more likely that all that needs to be done is a new transfer from the master and some minor work.

It could also be that the studio is just sitting on their property, waiting for the best time to strike. They might not think their film will sell well in the current market, so they're waiting for it to expand more. It could have absolutely nothing to do with actually preparing the movie for the disc and instead be entirely economically driven.
