Default Killzone 2: What can we do to help the PS3?

So, Killzone. Kinda of a big thing :|
I feel like, the release of this game could go really really well for Sony. Almost be a game changer, in Europe for sure thanks to their Killzone 2 bundle. Or could just be another meh, Metal Gear Solid 4 type of temporary spike.

Whenever people are over or I'm chilling at a friends place, I make it a point to showoff Killzone 2... Kinda try to build up a name for it among the people I know. Surprisingly none of them had ever heard of it. Given only a few of them are gamers, not hardcore by any sense but that is the whole point. Killzone 2 needs to get these people. Gears of War 2, had people talking... gamers or not gamers because its adverts were playing during prime time television. Gamer or not, you knew what a big thing Gears was. Same applied to Halo 3 when it came out.

Question is... is their anything, we the people, can do? To promote the game, to get it in the news... Obviously we can't market it, suffice to say we have yet to see any marketing for it other than a million articles on gaming websites. The game is still a month away, so not seeing any TV ads is understandable. I hope we do, for the sake of the PS3 becoming the big thing it should be. I think the least it deserves is some articles on CNET... yet there have been none. Some videos and ads when anybody logs on to Facebook... Game trailers in the cinemas... (I know they did that with Resistance 2 here in Canada, and it worked... problem was the ads started 2 weeks after the game out, by that time Gears had chewed it up).

Don't mess this one up, Sony.

Except spreading the word, or stay in the stores and kick people who look at 360 games like I do, there's nothing much we can do really.

The marketing and so on is up to Sony, all they ask us to do is buy the game Make friends see how good the game is and yada yada.

I still need to get convinced myself about Killzone 2, I'm not a FPS fan but this one is so anticipated I might give it a try. And I heard there will be a demo before the release date, which might help (or not ... sometimes demos aren't beneficial)

Although from what i've seen it looks amazing. Hopefully the gameplay is as impressive as the screen shots

Internet play is also going to be a huge factor. Once PSN gets their sh*t together and can hang with live, all bets are off. I have no doubt at that point, PS3 will be the clear king of the next gen consoles

Qore january ep. has about 5 minutes of gameplay video...Looks like nothing else. Really good looking. Google it or youtube and there are videos with 5-10 minutes of continuous play. Even with Cam it looks stellar. I am only recently becomming a FPS fan with games like Bioshock. This one will be a def buy for us.

I think if sony did what ubisoft did as part of a viral marketing campaign they might a better chance of spread the word.. Ubisoft would set up a website, and give points for telling other people about the website, they would set a forum up and a collection of missions which were marketing campaigns that awarded points...

At the end you used those points for goodies mouse pads, tshirts, games, etc etc..

Haze was kind of awful, it gave me a headache. I expected it to be much better, especially on the multiplayer side. But I suppose after COD, the guns just did not feel satisfying.

But Killzone is Killzone, it can't fail now. 3 4 Years of development, no way Sony would ever let Killzone come out below par. Considering they held the multiplayer beta 2 3 months ago, I'm sure they've had plenty of time to perfect the servers. Unlike say SOCOM, there is a lot of money sitting behind Killzone.

What are people's expectations now, is not getting a perfect 10/10 going to be considered a flop? Possibly for the obsessive compulsive but for the average dude, not likely... This game looks gorgeous and if it plays anything remotely close to COD, I won't complain. 7 different classes of multiplayer that can be mixed and match... limitless possibilities of wicked cool.

Yeah, but again... something like that is going to reach the kind of people that make their rounds online quite often. Most of these people already know plenty about Killzone and will eventually see the predictably positive reviews. This game has the capability to bring in a much wider audience. It needs to get the average person talking, again I come back to Gears. My friends who haven't owned video game console since SNES we're asking me if I had Gears of War :|

Me too, except my first foray into fps was Metroid Prime 3 about a year ago. I hated them prior to that game. Now I love them. So far I've done Uncharted, MGS4, Resistance 1 & 2, and Metroid Prime 1 & 2. I'm really excited about Killzone 2 and I've bought but still yet to play CoD4 and FEAR.

I'm hesitant to pick up Bioshock. It looks weird and I hated Fallout 3's graphics (just the people) and RPGishness.

I've spent my limited gaming time per day (like 3 hours) solely on Bioshock this week. I recently finished it and would definately recommend it to any FPS fan.

*I understand that some people that compare it to System Shock 2 were disappointed, but whatever. If you didn't play that then you will definately enjoy it.

I fear you may have misunderstood the point, they recruited fans as part of the marketing team, to go out into the world and market it to people who were not fans of the series..

They had them post reviews on multiple websites for points, previews, demo impressions, forum signatures etc.. basicly it was about turning fans into mini commercials and placing them where they were needed.. I walked away from one with over 150 dollars worth of prizes others walked away with 1000 dollars worth of prizes...

It's hard for nonhardcore gamers to get into FPS games. CoD 4 was an exception to that rule. But that's an easier transition since it was based in real world areas and on real world weapons. Throwing people into a Sci-FI universe with things they can't relate to is hard.

The best you could do is show your friends. Link videos of gameplay to them.

I think there are many people simply waiting on reviews from other sources than the OPM.

We can buy it, play it, love it and hope that Sony can actually find a marketing team before February.

Sometimes I had to stop playing because I would actively be afraid of dying.. when a game can do that they did something right... it was about atmosphere and sound.. which were so amazing...

I talk about it with my friends... They all have 360s, but want PS3s... They're just too broke to go buy it.

What Sony needs to do is advertise the hell out of this game. They need to make the KZ2 bundle available in N.A. I'm not sure why it's only available in Europe.
