I'm sure a few years down the road you will be able to buy a 12tb drive for your PS3

you are just limited by what is available in the notebook HDD industry...and, if I remember, Sony released in a patch the ability for the PS3 to format over 378GB...there was issues before, apparently..

there will never be a 1000GB hard drive for the ps3, but there should eventually be one that is 1024GB

Yes you can do it, but it requires a bit of work. You need to get an adapter cord that plugs into the PS3 and goes out to the hard drive since you can't directly plug it into the PS3 itself. Other then that, no, you can't get one that fits in nicely right now.

1TB for a PS3? I understand 1TB for a PC but for a PS3? That a lot of space that I wouldn't use.

The problem before, I believe, was that the PS3 required the drive be formated before it could read it. The problem being that Windows won't let ya format a FAT32 partition that large, and it's a mildly cumbersome task to get around that .

I'm really quite certain the PS3 does not use fat32 for the internal drive. External drives connected through USB, yes, but the internal drive uses a different format that's not been fully deciphered yet.
