Default both formats win

Hd-dvd I can see because certain movies are less then 2 hours long
Looking forward to seeing them on the market when they are original format :!:
Blu-ray would be good for recording because its large storage :!:

Don't mean to be rude, and welcome to the forum. Just I'm not sure what your point is!?

Perhaps you should have said that in the times of LaserDisc, you would have been welcomed
HD-DVD will be the worst format for HD, in MPEG-2 also (Because it has to be compatible with the DVD players )

Its large storage will be great for recording it's sure but ALSO to read pre-recorded movies in a perfect quality ! So, both format can't win ! It's impossible for the market to have two format in the same time ! 8)

PC, PS3 will choose Blu-Ray because of its large capacity. Movies will be Blu-Ray. HD-DVD has been choosen by Nintendo for its retro-compatibility with GameCube games, and I think that it will be the exact same case for the XENON ! 8)
I'm asking you, do you think the GD-ROM would have been a great support for other things than video games consoles ?

Xenon is not using a BD/HD drive according to a recent press release.

Two formats can exist if players can be made that are universal. BD/HD players would definitely allow for both formats to co-exist. Unlike Beta/VHS, which did not allow for universal players. Similar would be DVD+ and DVD- recordables. Sony stepped sideways when they released the dual format recorder and almost every DVD player handles all types of recordable media.

That's obviously not a perfect example due to the larger difference between BD & HD, but technology and manufacturers have a way of putting out new products that change landscapes very quickly.

Yeah, it should realitively simple to make a BD recorder also play back HDDVD.

I doubt you will see something that records both, but that should not be necessary at all...

Cheers!

Well, you will need a new set of lenses first... and a second laser...
and some new drivers... and ...

Samsung (a BDA member) is eyeballing the idea of a universal drive

They definitely have the expertise to do it and I say bravo Samsung. Format wars suck but universal players will make it a bit easier for people who love movies and hate format wars.
