Default IMAX movie length

A few years ago I saw Attack of the Clones in IMAX and heard it had scenes cut out, which it did because Imax movies can only be 2 hours long I heard. Does anyone still know if thats true. Watchmen in coming to Imax and I dont want to see it there of they cut it up.

it might be true as an imax print is quite large. there is a limit for 35mm films too, probably somewhere around 3 and a half hours. if its longer than that they would have to have an intermission, so they could move the second half of the film to the film platter, maybe they just have really big film platters now.

The Dark Knight has a running time of around two and a half hours. Was that chopped up for IMAX?

On the topic of Watchmen in IMAX, is it just blown up or was it actually filmed at a higher resolution (even in part, like TDK was)?

Watchmen is blown up for IMAX, same with Star Trek. But from what I heard Transformers 2 is going to have actual action footage shot with IMAX cameras just like TDK. I also heard the smae thing for Iron Man 2.

I don't think that The Dark Knight had anything cut. At least, there weren't any noticable transitions. There's only one way to find out. We go see it again on January 23 to find out! lol

I saw TDK in IMAX and NOTHING was deleted from the movie to accomodate the IMAX screening.

My second viewing was at a normal theatre and seeing it a second time, there was for sure NO scenes deleted on the IMAX screening.

I know that the IMAX version of Apollo 13 had to be cut to get it down to two hours. Perhaps the IMAX technology has improved since then so that is no longer necessary.

with the old equipment they had to cut the films down in size in order for them to be shown on the IMAX. they now have new reels and equipment that can support even longer movies.

Quote:
In the fall of 2002, IMAX and Universal Studios released a new IMAX-format of the 1995 theatrical film Apollo 13. This release marked the first use of the IMAX proprietary "DMR" (Digital Remastering) process that allowed conventional films to be upconverted into IMAX format. Other theatrically released films would subsequently be rereleased at IMAX venues using the DMR process. Because of a technical limitation on the size of the film reel, these early DMR releases were edited to conform to a two-hour length limitation, causing certain scenes to be cut. Specifically, and much to the frustration of many fans, this was the case with Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Later releases did not have this limitation. Current IMAX platters allow a run length of up to 150 minutes. Some films, such as Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, have been shown on IMAX screens using the standard 35 mm projection, but have not undergone the DMR process.
