Question Onkyo TX-NR705 5.1 to 7.1 upconvert.

I was just wondering how do I get this to work I was watching
Live Free Die Hard and it is a 5.1 DTS-HDMA movie and my receiver and ps3 displayed 5.1, also I couldn't hear anything coming from the speakers what do I do to get it in 7.1.

select PIIx, Neo6, THX EX or THX Ultra2. Note you can also use THX in conjunction with PIIx and Neo6.

Does this effect the sound comming from the rest of the speakers?

You still get 5.1 lossless, just with the rears getting sound?

I am not 100% sure, but my guess is that using PLIIx or Neo:6 on HD audio alters the audio from the other speakers. The reason for this is that my Denon 4308CI has two options for selecting PLIIx.

You choose the first option from the DSP menu (Jazz Club, Rock Concert, Stereo, etc.) to matrix 2-channel sound to 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 or matrix 5.1 sound to 7.1. It has three modes: Cinema, Music, and Game.

The second option is more deeply hidden in the menu. It allows for matrixing only the two side surround channels to the two rear surround channels. When I choose this option and set my PS3 to PCM, the message on the receiver's screen says multi-channel + PLIIx. I see 6 channels on the input side and 8 channels on the output side. This option also has three modes: Cinema, Music, & Game.

Why does the receiver offer two options for selecting PLIIx matrixing? My guess is that standard PLIIx alters the sound from the other speakers. Do you still get lossless audio? Yes.
