EDAM RELEASED – Feb 9th 2009

Without further ado, Edam goes live tonight (9pm UK time). This is a little earlier than expected thanks to the Molecules & the testing team who gave it their extra special attention. It contains the following bug fixes:
  • Failed to save profile’ message not being displayed when a users profile is full.
  • Object Capture Bug: switch connectors being deleted when an object is captured.
  • Failed to load profile issue :where the user is thrown out to the XMB due to a texture that is not registered in their profile being present in their pod.
  • Text not displaying in the text chat window.
  • Slow rewind due to moderation check.
  • Save file corruption which caused the game to crash when placing any object in an emitter in any level.
Hurrah!! I will post with a full cheese board update at the end of this week. Until then enjoy a nice bite of Edam on us!!

As usual, if you have any issues then please read the FAQ, send us a mail or leave a message in the comments section.

Hello all,

We have an update for you on some upcoming LBP patches!

Since returning from our much needed break we have been busy working on a mixture of things (fixes, some new & exciting stuff and the code clean up I mentioned a while back). You may know by now that we name each of our LittleBigProjects after cheeses! We are soon going to be adding a new feature to our website, ‘the cheese board’, where we’ll keep detailed information on all the various LBP cheeses, as they mature. That way you’ll have a good idea of what’s coming up. Until then a written update will need to do!!

Edam contains a set of bug fixes and is currently in testing. We are hoping for this to be out into the world by mid February (fingers crossed). Specifically the fixes are:
  • ‘Failed to save profile’ message not being displayed when a users profile is full.
  • Object Capture Bug: switch connectors being deleted when an object is captured.
  • Failed to load profile issue: where the user is thrown out to the XMB due to a texture that is not registered in their profile being present in their pod.
  • Text not displaying in the text chat window.
  • Slow rewind due to moderation check.
  • Save file corruption which caused the game to crash when placing any object in an emitter in any level.
Cornish Yarg contains many fabulous things, most excitingly new creative abilities – woo!! This will be a big delivery and so we want to make sure that it gets to you without any bugs and so we are planning very extensive testing which may involve some of you guys (more details out soon). This has only just started the testing process which usually takes 6-8 weeks minimum. Further announcements will be made in February.

Leerdammer: This delivery will really help people who are experiencing issues with lagging/packet loss. This improvement is still in development, which means it will be out after Cornish yarg but we aren’t sure when, rest assure Amy is hard at work. Announcements will be made throughout feb.

Please check our FAQ, Anton will be updating it today with some answers to some of the most common questions!

Siobhan

xx

I'm not sure how I feel about them making these sort of announcements so far in advance. It's nice to hear, I suppose, but it'd be nice to be able to look forward to it soon after hearing about it, rather than waiting a few months.

For example, "new creative abilities" sounds interesting, but it's going to be another month before we find out anything about it, and then probably another month before we get to have it.

So what's going on with the Play/Create/Share scores? Doesn't seem to be mentioned in any of the updates.

Upcoming Updates
As mentioned last week, Mm is hard at work to continue to improve the online experience in 09. We’re testing the newest update now and will let you know more as we near release. Also, wanted to assure you that we didn’t forget about “Online Create Mode” and the Play / Create / Share counters – it’s on our list to “check off” (hopefully soon)
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/...t-ces-edition/

May not actually be a part of any future update but something they 'flick the switch' on server-side when ready.

I think annoucning stuff like this will help keep people from freaking out about not getting support. It sucks to wait, but at least you know they are working on stuff and supporting the community.

+1.

I'd rather they let me know what's up instead of leaving me in the dark.

I'd definitely rather know they are at least "looking into" the issue.

Although it is a bit disheartening to see that they didn't mention many of the other issues that fans have been asking about for quite a while now. And even worse that there seems to be an open-ended timeline for fixes.

It's a start - so that's good.

Let's hope for the best and hope they are listening to the fans - and hope they learned their lesson with the MGS pack and are being more careful to check for bugs releasing new content.

The Search Engine is horrible and I hope they are working to fix that as well.

I typed in Puzzle Wheels last night. Got 5 pages of stuff that didn't have the word "Puzzle" or "Wheel" in half of them - and finally found my level on page six.

Although I'm worried after seeing this in their forum.

hi Mm! any news on improving the search engine? it’s hard to find the levels that community sites recommend by searching it using the name of the level. for some reason, the results almost always do not have the level i’m looking for.

efong replied on December 9, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Just curious, but what keyword(s) are you using? Can’t say I’ve heard many complaints about the search engine.

Thanks,
-E
But that was back on Dec. 9th. sooooooo. I know they "improved" the search function recently - but it didn't really improve it - only added more ways to find levels (which isn't very helpful when it still points you to levels having nothing to do with what you're searching for).

I keep getting friend requests from people I don't know saying, "Trying to find Puzzle Wheels". That's crazy that people have to add me as a friend on PSN just to find my level.

Wait, wasn't there supposed to be a patch that allowed you to build levels with your friends? If we had that, maybe CYMBOL would help me with some of his tips.

Uh oh. This means I'll be holding off on a level I had planned on making. I guess I could always work on it now, and then import the pictures later.

You know how painful it is to try and make stickers using the Playstation Eye and my laptop monitor?!?!?! Even worse, has anyone seen how much trouble it is to make a decent sticker using the creation tools themselves???

That's an old photo (a month ago?). They had already come out and said they wouldn't be offering that (despite the released photo).

Unless you've heard it has been reinstated with the Cornish Yarg update? This had me excited when this pic was leaked a while back - I'd love for it to become a reality - taking pics of your actual pictures with the PSEye turns out horrid.

If they do add this feature, I wonder how badly it will eat up a thermometer? I assume they would make the pictures take up more thermometer space than they'd actually need to, just to prevent people from using excessive amounts of photos.

Multiple reports from the field have arrived in Planetoid Central this evening to tell us that patch 1.08 has hit the servers, several weeks earlier than expected. This patch, also nicknamed Edam by Media Molecule (at least we assume this is edam, it could be an unknown cheese!), should contain a whole bunch of bug fixes, some of which are fairly major ones that have been causing trouble left, right, and center for the last few weeks.

Due to some planitary alignment issues, we have yet to establish communications and update, and so actual content is so far unconfirmed - Let’s hope everything is fixed now though huh?

The outlined plans for this patch are listed below, let us know what is and isn’t included!

Edam contains a set of bug fixes and is currently in testing. Specifically the fixes are:

* Failed to save profile’ message not being displayed when a users profile is full.
* Object Capture Bug: switch connectors being deleted when an object is captured.
* Failed to load profile issue :where the user is thrown out to the XMB due to a texture that is not registered in their profile being present in their pod.
* Text not displaying in the text chat window.
* Slow rewind due to moderation check.
* Save file corruption which caused the game to crash when placing any object in an emitter in any level.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

http://www.littlebigplanetoid.com/ar...am_is_live_now

Update:

It looks like this patch could just be related to the forthcoming availability of the God of War costume pack, and not as we all hoped the much needed changes to the game. It’s waaaay past our bed time here on the planetoid, hopefully the morning will bring with it some clarification!
