Default DVDempire shows 100%-0% right now

I realize it is May 1st, but will someone please buy something from dvdempire? This is embarassing. This is what happens when prices are so high. If the movie companies really wanted the war to end they would keep their prices low.

I think it's a bug. If you go to the week-view you will see that the week starting May 1.st actually are more like 50/50. And I don't see how both of these statistics can be true.

But if the statistic is just somewhat reliable I would say it looks pretty bad for Blu-ray. It sure did come on strong and went from being fra below to being far ahead (Week of march 13: 78%, week of march 20: 72%, week om march 27: 73%). But now it looks like it have lost momentum with the last two weeks showing just 57% and 53%.

Perhaps the evil tongues claiming that PS3's wouldn't be used to play blu-ray movies really, were right? I wouldn't like to think so.

I don't know to much about this. My hope is that hords of HD-zealots have found this statistic interesting and are therefore buying like h*ll in just this one shop. But obviously my hope isn't worth much. Anyone knows the truth? What does it look like on a world-wide scale? In America? In Europe? Etc.

Something is wrong on there webpage.

But I agree with you DaDane... I don't know exactly how many PS3 there has been sold, maybee 1 mio. 2 maybee..

With roughly 1,3 mio. blu-ray movies sold, thats 1 movie or less per PS3player, that's nothing.

If the PS3 have had a big impact, blu-ray would be pulling away. I know, that there has not been any big blockbuster realeses the last 14 or so, but anyway. A lot of movies has been released already, it does not seem like PS3 owners are buying a lot of those movies.

Until now PS3 has not helped in beating HD-DVD, it just insured that blu-ray was not lossing, in total movie sales.

Blu-ray will and should win in my eyes, but at this time the war is still 50/50. If the ratio had been 90/10 in favour of blu-ray, and stayed that way it would have been something. It means nothing that the ratio has been 70/30 for a couple of weeks.

That's just one online store. Plus, Fox hasn't been releasing any titles for a while (except Night at the Museum). If you look in the movie thread (New Releases for 5/1), you will see the percentage of people not buying this week.

BTW, you can't logically talk about how BD was at 70+% market share then turn around and say maybe PS3 owners don't buy movies. That is just about the only way Blu-ray could have numbers in the 70+% range over HD DVD, because HD DVD has more standalone players in home than Blu-ray does (though not by that much).

I wish a neutral organization could publish the worldwide BD titles numbers vs. HD DVD's numbers, too. I believe that would start to put things into perspective for HD DVD fans. Imagine what Japan's BD sales numbers are alone. BD sales have 95% market share to HD DVD's 5%.

The ratio has been 70/30 for the whole first quarter average this year! It is far from 50/50.

I don't think we have much to worry about. According to this:
http://www.hdgamedb.com/amazon/histo...TYPE=10&SPAN=7
Blu-ray has been KILLING HD-DUD in the last week.

This is an old trick, just like the top 10 sellers. I know one company that used to run their own top 10. Number 1 was invariably a title that was not selling with lots of stock collecting dust - or a really good profit margin. The winner out the Amazon purchase days is not Blu-ray or HD-DVD yep you guessed it - AMAZON is the winner. Why should they get all the action!!!! I don't know the next 'con' is but they are getting better and more sophisticated.

Have you noticed that one of the top titles for HD-DVD is always Digital Video Essentials? And that's a disk that has playback problems on the 360 add-on drives. Hmmm.... I wonder if there's something to what was posted above me, or if so many people buy that disk.

Then again, maybe they buy it because they don't have much of anything to buy on HD-DVD?

Look at the sales ranks. That is just pure sickness. Blu-ray is pretty much dominating. Personally I don't even like the movies that are coming out on HD-DVD alone. Smokin Aces, pretty much a joke if you ask me, another Ben Aflack classic, Hitcher that comes out later, and several others that came out new. Besides Universals classic movies I don't really like there new releases, which makes blu-ray even better for me.

Dvd Empire is not as big as Amazon and I have never even looked at their site. So if they say Dead is ahead well its because nobody goes there. I will be probably getting 10 movies this month from Amazon starting with both Pirate movies. By the end of May we will see who is winning .

That's a telling graph. You notice how it shows Blu-ray supporters responded to the HD DVD buy-a-thon by boosting the ranking for BD, while HD DVD fell right back to where it was before.

Ooof.

Thumbs up All better with DVD Empire now

Just checked (May 03, 07) weekly stats. Here are the numbers:

51.09% Blu to 48.91% HD-DUD.

Getting a little better. They still need to fix an obvious bug in the way the numbers are computed. Specifically, since May has just begun: Month sales should equal week sales, but they don't.

Rup.
