Thumbs up THE LIMEY - Steven Soderbergh (dir.), Terence Stamp, Peter Fonda

Would absolutely love to see The Limey on blu-ray. A wonderful revenge movie from director Steven Soderbergh. The basic plot is: A father's daughter goes missing and he sets out to find her. While not as flashy or over-the-top like Taken is, it's just as entertaining. It has a gritty, "b-movie" feel to it.

Terence Stamp kicks so much arse in this. His dialogue in this is fantastic. Has that dry British sense-of-humor, but also throws in that 'cockney' slang. From what I read, Soderbergh wrote the part specifically for him to play.

Even the always-hammy Peter Fonda plays a great sleazeball.

Sorry to bump this and get your hopes up again; I love me The Limey as well. Just wanted to throw in that Soderbergh even went so far as to acquire the rights to an old Terence Stamp movie, Poor Cow, just so he could use the footage of a younger Stamp in the flashback footage. I love when a director is so invested in a project, specifically creating a project/role around a specific, under-the-radar actor. Especially when that actor is such a badass like Terence Stamp. It reminds me of how Tarantino made roles in Pulp Fiction for Travolta (arguable how under-the-radar he really is or was at the time,) or the roles he came up with for Pam Grier and Robert Forster in Jackie Brown, not that any of these are as badass as Terence Stamp. Well, maybe Pam Grier...

This could be on the horizon soon, its @ Lionsgate, and they just did an SE edition of Buffalo 66, the way Lionsgate operates is odd to me, they are very cheap, so if it pop ups overseas, then they'll pick it up, I belive they go halfsies on everything, their theatrical releases are this way too, none are financed 100% by them, same goes with their home entertainment releases.

Ah, so that's where the footage came from. Never bothered to research it. Very cool. Thanks!

Would also like to see The Limey on Blu. This film is one of the best & most underrated crime noir thrillers of the '90's, and made even better with a nostalgic late '60's/early '70's vibe/tone re: the amazing soundtrack & poignant flashbacks. I always felt the Terry Valentine (Peter Fonda) character is what Fonda's Wyatt character in Easy Rider may have ended up becoming - if he had lived.

As was said, it was a stroke of genius for Soderbergh to use flashbacks from the old Terence Stamp film Poor Cow (1967) to show the character in his youth; this type of thing is rarely done in films.

With news of Sex, Lies, and Videotape coming to Criterion, maybe the Limey will be considered. There's no denying the mastery of the film. It deserves a place there.

...any sign of this ever coming to Bluray? Or perhaps it has already been released in another country?...the title of the film would probably be changed for a foreign market hence using the search bar on here didn't give any results...
One of my favorite films....

Anyone adding a new release in the database should (if they have any common sense) state the original title as well as the title it's issued under in whatever country it's being released in. Therefore there is no release of this at this time and if there was I'd own it by now.

Wasn't sure where to post this question, but a) I wish The Limey was on Blu and b) I bought the old DVD recently to compensate, I'll ask here.

For some reason the DVD won't convert to 16x9 when I play it in my Sony BDP-S570 player. I've messed around with screen settings and nothing seems to work. I still get black bars cropping on the side. Any suggestions?

The quoted run time (85 min) on amazon.fr suggests that this is 1080i50Hz instead of 1080p24. I'd love to have this but if this is going to have speed-up issues then I ain't touching it. I'm going to hold off until there is confirmation.

I'd buy it. I love this period in Soderbergh's career (Out of Sight until Oceans 13).

This is a crime that it's not on Blu.
You'd think Criterion would release it by now.

It looks like I might be canceling my preorder of the German Koch Media blu set for release in December then. I await more news.
