I own a yamaha HTR 6130 reciever with a yamaha speaker package that came with it. The HTR 6130 decodes dolby digital and dts, basic stuff. I have a PS3 hooked up to it. the only problem is that you have to run an optical to the reciever if you are using HDMI, which I am. this system is installed in my apartment, but at my parents house we have a yamaha RX-V663 that decodes everything. it's hooked up to do 7:1, but when it decodes it's usually 5:1. when I was at my parents house i hooked up a sony blu-ray player, a S350, and it decodes the highest level of audio straight to the reciever. my playstation will do this too, but at my apartment all I can get out of it is dolby digital. I watch a lot of blu-rays so I pay for the high quality sound that accompanies the picture. what i'm wondering is what setting do I have to have the system in my apartment so that the PS3 does the decoding and sends it out the highest quality audio to the reciever?
