Newspaper claims car thief transformed into a goat

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) - One of Nigeria's biggest daily newspapers reported that police implicated a goat in an attempted automobile theft. In a front-page article on Friday, the Vanguard newspaper said that two men tried to steal a Mazda car two days earlier in Kwara State, with one suspect transforming himself into a goat as vigilantes cornered him.

The paper quoted police spokesman Tunde Mohammed as saying that while one suspect escaped, the other transformed into a goat as he was about to be apprehended.

The newspaper reported that police paraded the goat before journalists, and published a picture of the animal.

Police in the state couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

Belief in black magic is widespread in Nigeria, particularly in far-flung rural areas.

Having lived in Africa for several years myself as a teenager, I can say without reserve that newspapers over there can outdo anything that the 'Weekly World News' puts out exponentially.

I'm serious, I'd pay cash money to learn that trick. Then I'd stop paying taxes.

So they'd haul me in to the IRS, and the agent takes me into an office, and starts going through my shoebox full of nonsense.

And I turn into a goat. He freaks out, runs out to get some help, and I turn back into me. So everybody runs in, I go, whassup, how long is this going to take.

They look at him crazy, they leave, he sits down, I turn back into a goat. Then I say, "Look, we can do this all day."

He cuts me loose. This could work. I think I could even pretend to be other tax bandits, for cash, make a good living at it. You gots to think outside the box nowadays.
