Default Original and Theatrical cuts of THE GRUDGE and SIN CITY, which do you perfer?

I noticed that the upcoming releases of THE GRUDGE and SIN CITY
contain both the theatrical and extended cuts---
I was wondering on how many people out there prefer this--

I for one, absolutely HATE releases that offer the "unrated directors cut"
and completely omit the theatrical version. Sometimes the entire ending is changed and I can't get the version I liked in the theatre.
Hoping that studios offer more releases with both versions!

In most cases.... I like like the extended cuts and have absolutely NO PROBLEMS with studios offering BOTH the original and extended versions on BD. Why would I? They aren't taking anything away from me and more is better, no??

If you're talking about the way studios offered you one or the either on DVD or as you said ONLY the Director's Cut.... well, that was DVD and the times, they are a changing.

Is there a case in which ONLY an alternate version of a film has been put on BD and not the theatrical version??

I usualy prefer having the extended cut from the movie rather then the theatrical cut, I fine that to be better IMO, if it was for me alone I would say never bothered release the theatrical cut on BD but I know many prefer to see it as it was in theaters.

I prefer the director's intended version (Donnie Darko is an exception). Something like the Sin City extended is cool, but I'll take the theatrical version over it which was how it was intended.

Wasn't there just a topic about this?

Anyway, it all really depends on what's changed in the movie. I can't go with a blanket statement because some extended versions are much better than the theatrical cuts. On the other hand, some unrated versions are just terrible.

The "Unrated Director's Cut" is what the original cut was before the Studio changed it. It's the original story with no holds bar. I love it and wish all included the "Unrated Director's Cut".

I usually prefer the extended version, but that's not always the case. I prefer the theatrical versions of Star Wars, Hancock and one or two others. The rest I prefer the extended versions. As pointed out before, the theatrical version isn't always the version the director wanted the public to see. Movies are often shortened by studios for time. Remember, they can make more money if they're able to show the movie twice a night rather than once.

And as for extended versions that change the way the movie ends, The Abyss is the only movie I can recall right offhand that does that. I would love to have it on blu-ray too.

As long as it has both extended and original in the package, i'm fine with it. Usually the extended only adds one or two extra short scenes, so it's just a little bonus.

The main really good directors cuts that comes to mind is Lord Of The Rings. Also the alternate ending for I Am Legend was better than the original, even though it still could have been better.

One directors cut that was way stupid was Butterfly Effect,
[Show spoiler]hanging yourself with your embelical cord? Seriously?

I disagree with the Butterfly Effect reference. I particularly liked that version better.

I do research first. If the "extended" cut is the directors prefered version, then thats what I want to watch. A good example is Troy...way better than the theatrical version.

I didn't word this very well---
my beef is the studio offering ONLY the director's cut...

I would much prefer to have BOTH versions on the blu as The Grudge
and Sin City are offering. With all the hype of how much space blu-ray
holds-- it seems that it should be quite easy to fit both versions on the
disc...as well as more extras (that are typically lacking bigtime!)

Where do you generally find that information?

well I just finished TROY and it only had the alternate version---which I
still enjoyed-- but I would like to have the version I saw in the theatre
as well...

I've seen both versions of The Grudge and Sin City and prefer the directors cut on both.
