Default Alien 3 alternate ending?

I just watched a bootleg at a friend's home.
At the end, the alien didn't come out, and Ripley just dived into the lava with her arms spread wide open.
Am I seeing things?

No, you're not seeing things. If you watched the special edition version of it on DVD, that's the way it would end. Did this version also have the alien come out of a cow-like creature instead of the dog? If not, then it's a weird mix of the two cuts.

perhaps an edited version?

I was hoping that there was a true alternate ending-- I hated both the
first 5 minutes (finding out Newt and Hicks were dead--what a slap in the
face to the audience )
and the last 5 minutes (Ripley's demise) of this ill-concieved misfire....

There should have just been an alternate Alien 3 with the Colonial Marines fighting Aliens on Earth.

For such brilliant films I was so disapointed with Alien 3 and Alien 4 (whatever it was called). I wish they would just write those 2 off as bad, and continue on from where number 2 ended. I would even accept an explanation that 3 and 4 were just dreams!!
And when will those first two be released on Bluray? I keep looking and hoping, but as yet seen nothing.

I read one of the original scripts and it was Hicks, Bishop, Ripley and a squad of marines kicking butt. It was amazing! I have since disowned 3 and 4 from my collection.

I guess I'm in the minority here. While I feel that #4 was an abortion to the series, I really liked "3." It was dark, depressing, and had the perfect "middle-finger" ending.

actually, I must be the odd one out, because I loved Alien3! Alien: Ressurection... not so much - but Alien3... dude - good shtick to me!

Of course, Fincher's "assembly cut" is vastly supperior to the theatrical cut.

can't wait for Fox to put out their quadrilogy pack on Blu!!!

as they say-- to each his own-- that's just the kind of movie I hate so
I didn't like it--- you probably liked the ending of THE MIST as well--

no offence meant at all-- I just don't like having that "middle finger"
pointing at me!

No offense taken.

I guess I'm thinking of it as more a "middle finger" in terms of her character directing said finger toward the other characters: namely the corporation. Not "middle finger" in the sense of it being aimed toward the audience.

I think that's the most I've ever typed or spoken the words "middle finger" in my life.

I agree the "director's cut" or "assembly cut" is a much different and vastly improved film than the theatrical release.

Actually, it was the extended version if I remember correctly. They had the ox dying, the trapping inside the waste dump, the dumbass releasing his dragon lord, etc.

I actually had the boxset and watched all of them for several times. Maybe I just forgot about the alternate ending..... weird.....

By the time Aliens is over we care about Newt and Hicks and to just kill them off so easily in the 3rd was like a slap in the face. Alien 3 is like one big chase scene and the inmates, do we care about them, I think not.

+1

Absolutely! Couldn't agree more! Ripley rescued them, nearly sacrificing her own life in the final throes of "Aliens" only to have them "explained away" in Alien 3. I have to say that this was disappointing.

"Alien Resurrection" was, IMHO, an awesome idea, but not very great execution. "Alien 3," though disappointing, harmonized with the first two a little better than "Resurrection" did.

I do have all four movies in the Special Edition releases on DVD. I would definitely purchase the first two on BD. Would only get "3" and "Resurrection" if they were really inexpensive or a really great box set price.

So the general consensus is:

Alien3: sucks
AlienR: sucks Harder

lol

Still, having said that...

Anybody hear any Fox-Bowel-Rumblings about the quadrilogy blu release? Alien was 1979 - so that'd make this the 30 year anniversary.... possible fox cash-in-me-thinks/hopes?

caught me off guard when I first watched it as well, but no, you didn't imagine it.

Surprised no one else mentioned the "I just watched a bootleg" thing yet
