Default Help me with Faint Buzzing Noise????

I have an Onkyo 606 and polk speakers. I use a PS3 for blu-ray playback, and of course video games. Anytime I am using the PS3 with the receiver, there is a faint buzzing noise coming from my speakers. At volumes 28 and below, you can hear it pretty good, and as the volume goes up, it starts to drown out. So it doesn't interfere with movie playback, but if I am using it late at night, on a low volume, I am hearing the buzzing. Does anyone know how to fix this??? And I am using banana plugs to connect my speakers, so it shouldn't be that connections. Any help is appreciated.

Move the PS3 farther away from the speakers?

you have ground interference.

easier said than done..

locate the ground by
- unplugging each component (anything close or plugged in the same 'strip'/conditioner) at a time, and listen to see if the ground is still there.

- if you finally find it, isolate it by using a power conditioner/filter/surpressor.

simple solution for now, will get back to you when i have the chance.

at work and am a bit busy. hopefully i gave you an idea

Do you by chance have your PS3 close to your Cable/Sat. box? I know that there are components inside the boxes that can cause other electrical equipment to have a hum/buzz noise associated to it.

So I have narrowed it down a bit. The HD cable box, has no buzzing sound when running audio through the receiver, so it must be the PS3 that is causing my problem. I have it plugged in a different outlet than the rest of my equip. and on its on surge protector. Any take on this?? Why do I still have the buzzing when audio is coming from the PS3?

have you played with the conections on the back. You now what i mean ,When you bend them (kind of play with them)can you make the buzzing stop for a second or two?
Iam assumeing the HDMI cable ,do you have another input you can use then the one your useing now on your reciever?

Like the other post said, it's probably a grounding problem. Try to plug the PS3 into a different outlet (probably the same one as the cable box). If the buzzing goes away then it's an issue with that outlet.

Having different pieces of equipment on digital electrical circuits is not good if you're trying to avoid grounding noise. Get a bigger power board so that everything can be on the same point (within reason!).

are you certain that the buzzing sound is only from your ps3? to no offense, try checking again, this time turning up the receivers volume a tad higher to check.

now, if youve isolated it to be your ps3 as a conclusion, its time to check your connections.

i am assuming you are using an hdmi cable from your ps3 to the receiver -
-try doing what ozzman suggested earlier
- check
- if its still there try to remove the hdmi cable and
1. check for damage
2. if it was bundled with your other cords, seclude it for a moment and check again.
3. got another hdmi cable? try swapping that out.
4. better yet, connect it directly to your tv and see if you get any buzzing still
5. can you check your power cord? is it close to the other cables? hdmi in particular?

with all instances, if you still have a ground/buzzing, let us know.

quick analysis, it might be
- faulty hdmi cable (poor insulation. yes i know its a digital signal, either you get it or dont)
- cable interaction (meaning one of the OTHER cables are not insulated properly, thus the ground)

havent had coffee yet. so bear with me.

It's a common recommendation if you google "ground loop PS3" to remove the polarization plug (the third plug, the round one) from the power cord.
