"Whether the rumors that Pioneer plans to pull out of the plasma TV business prove true or not, one other maker of flat panel TVs has left plasma behind: Vizio."
"As with the majority of its competitors, Vizio will concentrate on adding features to its line of LCD sets. Its first LED-backlit LCD TV will come to market this July, a $1,999 55-inch model that also features 240Hz technology." http://gadgetwise.blogs.nytimes.com/...-drops-plasma/ |

You guys celebrate this fact...but companies abandoning the plasma platform builds momentum in and of itself. While Panasonic and Samsung could be happy with the reduced competition, more likely their marketing people are wondering if Vizio and Pioneer see something in the market that they don't.
Vizio is an astute and nimble company. While their products are not considered top shelf, they most certainly provide a good value for the dollar. Their 50" plasma got some pretty good reviews. I would have loved to see a 58" offering from them for the $1,800 range. Competition is a good thing. Fewer suppliers mean higher prices. Last edited by jc480; 02-12-2009 at 12:38 AM. |

The only vizio plasma I have seen is at my brother-in-laws, and I wasn't impressed, I don't think they will be missed all that much. I do know that the new Vizio LCD's look a lot better then they did when I bought mine. Good thing I bought a Samsung too.

I loved Vizio. Check that, love em. Owned one, father still owns one. Great bargain televisions. I had mine for more than a year, never failed me, and my pops' has been going strong for even longer. I mean, they're selling like hot cakes. Those of you who hate on them are but an eensy fraction of the people out there - they sell.
Anyway, Vizio threads always devolve (is this even a word?) into Vizio-defenders versus Vizio-haters. I'm a defender - eventually, this thread will get locked. Yea, yea, we've all heard the rant about their business practices. |

It's like Westinghouse and Polaroid exiting the LCD market, it doesn't matter. (except in the case of Pioneer where it matters to videophiles) |

I got me a vizio *Puts on helmet* OOOOOO thats better!
-LT in the stupid commercial. That is all I can think of when I think of Vizio. I would totally buy a Samsung, Panny, or Pioneer plasma over Vizio anyday. I just hope that one company stays with it because plasmas are so much better! |

Yea, Most people cant afford the Pioneer and Vizio sucks and is so small compared to Panasonic, Samsung and LQ. Id say no worries until Samsung or Panasonic make an announcement. Then Plasma is in trouble.
