Default Front Projector and Hot Odors

I have a Sony VPL-VW60 front projector. It is less than a year old.

About a couple of weeks back I got a screen warning telling me that the temperature was hot and the projector turned itself off.

I took a peek at the air filter and noticed it was covered with dust so i cleaned it out and I made sure that all the air vents were dust free. I blew them out with a can of compressed air.

Now the error message has gone away, but now the projector seems to put out an odor after it gets warmed up.

The odor is not that bad.... I'm just wondering if it was there before.

Does anyone else experience smells from their hot front projector?

sounds like the dust is in a position now that allows for the bulb to 'burn' it when it gets warm..... either that, or it was always there

Never experienced this myself, and you have me nervous so I don't want to go sniffing around my projector!!!

Never noticed an odor before with either an RS-2 or my current 11s2.

BTW, I'd be careful using compressed air around lenses or the internals of sensitive electronic equipment-- the propellant is very cold and can damage electronics/lenses. You'd be better off using a photo-quality hand pump air blower. You can find one at your local camera shop for reasonable cost (~$10 or so). I use a Rocket-Air by Giottos.

It can also force dust into the lens, and give you dust-blobs.
