Default SAG Refuses Final Offer by Producers (Could lead to Big TV/Movie Production Stalling)

Quote:
The board of the Screen Actors Guild rejected the "last, best and final offer" by producers Saturday night, continuing a months-long deadlock over contract talks.

The two sides have been trying to hammer out a deal to resolve a labor dispute that threatens to shut down production of many movies and television shows.

"We simply cannot offer SAG a better deal than the rest of the industry achieved under far better economic conditions than those now confronting our industry," the AMPTP said.
Full story on CNN.

Hopefully this will be resolved sooner rather than later. Obviously SAG has greater power to alter production schedules of TV and Film than the WGA did, which could mean bad things for movies and tv shows coming out/airing later this year and beyond if a full on strike occurs

i don't think it's "typical greed." do you know what SAG is even after, because if you did it would make perfect sense why they're fighting for it (i.e. new media residuals). although i have no idea how much of an increase they are asking, i do think they should definitely be compensated for new media distribution. either way, it is unfortunate that we suffer too. oh well.

It is also unfortunate that those who are just graduating from film school or feel they have what it takes to make it in LA or NYC will most likely be out of a job for some time if this full fledged strike occurs. It is sad when this happens because I love watching and critiquing new movies that come out. I guess I will have to just stick to some catalog blus for now.

If the strike happens, it will have an epic (negative) impact on Californias economy. Gazillions (yes, gazillions) of industries are tied to the Movie and TV industry.

Got my fingers crossed.
