Last Starfighter director Nick Castle remaking...the Last Starfighter? - Blu-ray Forum

Purely speculation at this point, but there have been numerous stories regarding a remake of Nick Castle's sci-fi classic, The Last Starfighter, going around for the last few months. What I didn't know was, Nick Castle may be planning on remaking his own movie. How many times have you seen THAT happen?

According to IMDB, the new Starfighter movie directed by Castle, simply titled Starfighter, is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2010. But this is IMDB, and nothing is truly set in stone until there's an official announcement. The original is fantastic, if you haven't seen it go out and rent it. You're in for a fun adventure filled with the most hilarious special effects ever (but there were considered great for their time...remember, this was 1984

)

I don't know. The original was already good IMO. It was ground-breaking, campy, and fun.

While I like the original, maybe they could just update the special effects. It's almost unbearable to watch.

Why doesn't he just tack on some CGI like Lucas did?

I would love it if they just redid the Computer Graphics stuff with modern technology. Then on the Blu-ray have the option to watch original or updated.

I don't see how he could recapture the magic the first one had, I guess we'll see though...maybe.
