Default Anyone have a Dayton subwoofer?

i just bought my speakers and now looking for a sub. i previously had my eyes on the polk psw10 but i read all the negative reviews about it. i was just wondering if the dayton subwoofers are good enough for a small to medium sized room. the dayton 12" will only cost me around $150 shipped

Dayton subwoofers are not bad. A few of them are designed by Dr. Hsu of Hsu Research. You can get better deals from Acoustic Audio.

Dayton's supposedly aren't bad if you can find a good deal on their subs. The BIC, Premier Acoustics (PA-120), and Acoustic Audio subs are also all really good bargain subs.

Personally, I love my PA-120.

i have a dayton sub 120. for the money, its pretty darn good. but, remember the part about "for the money" = wth do ya want for $150. know what i mean.
though i think 2 of them in a small, 12x12 maybe, room would be impressive for $300.

oh. you gotta understand that the room itself has a lot to do with it.

Big Daddy, can you give us an honest assessment of your Accoustic Audio 12" sub? It looks pretty nice, but I've never considered Accoustic Audio for a sub before. Is it fairly accurate and musical? Hopefully, it's not boomy or muddy. Do you think the power rating of 400 watts RMS / 800 watts peak is accurate? I've got two M&K subs, which have always been my benchmark, but now I'm considering another sub to have 2 in the home theater and 1 for my 2 channel room.

It's a nice looking sub, and it's dirt cheap. If it's a good performer it would be a fantastic bargain. Thanks.

I believe the power ratings are pretty accurate. Even at 50% and no gain on the receiver, it is pretty loud. I have 4 subwoofers in my HT room and this one is the loudest. I have set the volume to less than 50%. If you don't calibrate and lower the volume properly, it can be overpowering and completely drown the other speakers.

I ran test tones through it from 20Hz to around 250Hz and measured the response with an SPL meter. It played them all without any problem. At 20HZ, I had a very hard time hearing the bass, but the SPL meter was registering around 85 dB.

In my HT room, I play both 2.1 music (I should say 2.4) and 7.4 movies. I can't say it is the most musical subwoofer in the room, but it keeps up with the other subwoofers without any problems.

For less than $200, it is a good value. Many subwoofer plate amplifiers alone cost more than $200. In addition, it is not too large and has great WAF appeal. It may not be perfect, but the risk of buying one is very small.

If you decide to buy one, my recommendation is to use this in your movie room to take advantage of its power so that it gives you the extra oomph during movies. You can move one of the M&K subs to your 2-channel room.

I have the Dayton 12, and if you can afford it, go with something better. It's not too bad, but it is boomy, and I have had to send the amp back twice in less than a year. But it does have pretty good output.

I got the Dayton SUB-100 from partsexpress.com for $109 shipped and I love it!

Can't beat it for the price. Its for my bedroom. Its at $131.80 now but still worth it.

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=300-633

I also have the Bic Acoustech H100, which is a much better sub for 2.5x the price.
