my tv model # is HLT5675S
well i have a tv that has been 'serviced" from brandsmart since december 1st they put in a new dlp chip, light wheel and adjusted the picture no matter what they do the scroll bar at the bottom for espn, nbatv, mlbtv cant be seen. so the techs go into the service menu on the tv and raise the tv picture. when they do this the red outline box that shows the tv picture is level and on point is raised too high so i can see the scrollingg bar at the bottom when its set correctly, i cant see the bottom scrolling line well the tech yesterday tells me "i spoke to samsung and they said its due to a 2% overscan on your dlp" im so mad, the tv has been messed up and this guy wont warranty the tv. he now wants me to call samsung to get the problem rectified but im NOT in samsungs warranty anymore. i bought the tv in october 2007 and the only reason brandsmart comes out is due to my extanded warranty any suggestions or ideas for my situation? my HLT (LED model) has 16x9 mode and a "jsut scan" mode.
16x9 does have the overscan where you get 2-5 % overscan so you don't see edge border and such. The jsut scan mode give more of the entire picture. If you haven't tried that mode if you have it, you should. |

i guess extended warranties vary from place to place, but shouldn't they replace the tv, if they can not fix it?

There should be a setting in the service menu to turn the overscan completely off, which is the same as the "just scan" mode that was mentioned earlier. If turning this off does not fix the situation, then there truly is a problem. I'd get the service guy out there again and have him do that.
From a quick Google search it looks like that set had a lot of overscan problems. If Brandsmart is like Best Buy they may have a "no lemon" policy if a certain number of repairs are made, or there is a problem they cannot fix. I'd probably try and push for that. |

thats what im doing im having them come out AGAIN on 3/14/09 (this is like the 6th time since dec) im going to look for the overscan thing. i know how to access the service menu. i just want the tv fixed. the last guy though he was the "all knowing mr chinaman" and in the long run he just told me "call samsung and talk to them" so i told the service rep if he comes to my house AGAIN im going to knockout jenkins him. i dont understand how a company can tell me "call the tv manufactor" when my warranty is THRU THE SERVICE COMPANY(the place i bought it from) i also googled the tv model and it seems like theres an overscan problem but when i called samsung yesterday they told me "it should only be 2% if that" i got screwed by a lousy brandsmart service tech is pretty much what happened. |

Just be careful in the service menu. If you screw something up, Brandsmart has every right to tell you to take a hike. That being said, I believe there is a thread on AVS for these TV's that will tell you what setting you need to change for the overscan. I know on mine it doesn't just say "overscan". Probably on purpose.

To correct the overscan problem with Samsung DLPs require manual adjustment (Not a Typo). I do have the factory mirror adjustment settings to adjust these TV's. You need to adjust the mirrors by using the screws on the back of the Tv. Email me at modelt08@crestviewcable.com and I'll send you the document.

I sent you an e-mail but figured people on here would be interested in more information as well.
With the manual adjustment, is it precise enough to get an exact pixel for pixel match or is it more for the problem the OP has where there is content off the edge of the screen? |
