Default Panasonic BD-30 DVD issues

I notice whenever I play a regular DVD in my player...an occassional knocking noise occurs..than goes away.

Is this common with this player? How about some of the newer models?

I have the same model with firmware 2.6. I heard mine make noises once before it bricked. But it did that after I uploaded a certain firmware that some people had issues with back in the summer. I even got the disc directly from Panasonic to do the firmware, so I know it wasn't me. After the firmware update, it was basically dead as far as a blu-ray player, as it would not play blu's after the update, only SD. So, I'm not sure if it's the same issue or not. Regardless, if it never made that noise before, this could be a sign of a bigger issue. Is it only during loading or when you are watching the movie?

only happens at certain points while playing a regular DVD.

not on blu-rays at all.

What player did you go with after the BD-30?

How long have you had the player? Could you return it/exchange it? Any noticable noises like you are describing cannot be good. There are times when a blu-ray player will have issues playing SD discs, (my friends Samsung did this), but it is rare. Do you watch a lot of SD?

After mine bricked, I knew it was a rare thing. So, having been extremely happy with the BD-30, which at the time I felt was the best stand-alone player out there, I actually bought another. No issues since, and I can really say that although they have discontinued this model, it is a great, solid performer and would still recommend it to anyone who may find one.
