Ratings are entirely subjective and even constantly changing with time.

A Clockwork Orange was originally released with an X rating. This meant that minors couldn't see it at all, even if they had a parent/guardian with them. Years later, it was re-rated R, meaning minors could see it with a parent.

Stuff like this happens all the time. Perhaps you're familiar with Kevin Smith's films? Two of his films have been rated NC-17, then resubmitted and rated R without any edits.

Take a look at The Dark Knight. Compare the sort of violence there to other PG-13.

Finally take notice of the fact that there is little adult material in the Harry Potter stories apart from the violence and that the violence is of a fantasy nature. Fantasy violence is considered much more appropriate for a child because of the simple fact that a child could never use a Killing Curse on their friend. Show them a Wizard killing another Wizard with a magic spell and it makes for exciting drama, show them a man shooting another man with a rifle and it makes for potentially troubling imagery.

I cannot wait to see this! The Harry Potter series is not only one of the best series of books ever but the movies are fantastic as well.

Yeah! freakin' Twilight with your vampires and what not.
I thought about boycotting the new Potter at first then I realized I'd only be hurting myself. Looks awesome though! As far as ratings go, I genarally don't even look. I imagine I enjoy a lot more PG-13 films then R anyways.
