Default Amazon Kindle 2

I got an email regarding the Kindle 2,it's thinner, but way overpriced,as was the original Kindle, does anybody reading this actually have or like this thing,I mean it's B&W,not colour, remember the ol' monchrome Game Boy from Yesteryear! If it had a colour screen it would be so much more popular,at least with me!

I know my mom purchased one but I haven't seen it yet or heard about it back. I'll post back when I know more. All she told me was it's super thin and light!

I want one, but, then realize I can usually find paperback version for a lot cheaper than $10 a book...

not worth the investment, in the long run...

Call me old fashioned, but I love the smell of a book!

Hi all,
I just ordered a Kindle 2(not the deluxe one) today as they just dropped the price from 359.00 to 299.00. Couldn't justify spending 489.00 for a slightly bigger screen. I could have gotten an IPod touch with the Kindle App but the problem is this. I wouldn't use most of the other stuff on the touch and the screen is way too small for me. Also the Kindle is designed so you can still read it even in sunlight. I have been researching it for a long time so I think I will be very happy with it. I have already looked up a few books that I recently purchased that I paid 15-20 bucks for and they have em for 9.99. For me this is great because at times I am reading 3-4 books at once and would have to take them all with me if I went on a trip. Not a problem with the Kindle since it can hold something like 1,500 books. They also have tons of stuff on there for free(public domain). So in the long run this baby is gonna save me a bunch of money every year. I'll post again after I put it through its paces.
Later.

Can anyone who has a Kindle tell me if it handles PDF files, and how well it handles them?

In high school I had an old eBook thing made by RCA, so I dug it up out of a box, but it doesn't handle PDF files very well. I had to convert them from .pdf to .reb using command line crap in Terminal. The results weren't very good.

I've been thinking of either getting a Sony Reader thing (whatever they call it) or a Kindle, but only if they can handle PDFs well.

The new Kindle DX is perfect for PDF's. It's kind of pricey but it does a good job and it's got a very nice big screen, it's very thing, and you can turn it sideways as well just like the I-Phone / I-Touch.

I've thought about one for my wife and I to share. She reads tons of books over and over. Some she has purchased three or four times because they get that worn. I thought this would be great.

The downside is that many of her favorite books are not available on kindle. I would use it mostly for Cisco Press and other IT related books (usually found on PDF but now many on Kindle).

You don't need the deluxe to do PDF files. You can get the regular Kindle version 2. It's priced right now at 299.00. Mine came yesterday and I love this thing. I already downloaded about 15 books that were totally free.
Someone had mentioned the Sony reader. Big Difference, the Kindle you can download books wherever you are, the Sony one has to be hooked to a computer. That was one of many deciding factors for me.
