I just purchased Polk Audio FXI A6 Bi/Di Pole Surround Speakers. They are going to be used in a 5.1 setup as my room is in an old house and not big enough ever to have 7.1.
They are going in a room about 11' x 20' with the TV along one of the small walls so the surround speakers must go on the opposite wall of the 20' long room. Problem is that the sofa is all the way against the back 11' wall and to the right is a huge picture window with no wall room at all for the speaker unless I place it directly in the corner where the main woofer of this speaker and one tweeter would be facing the back wall and only about 1 inch away. So I was thinking of perhaps mounting these speakers on the Back wall above the sofa. Should I mount them in the corners or so many inches/feet away from the corners? Don't have much wall to work with though. Also in this kind of setup should I run them as Bipole or Dipole you think? Anyone have these or similar type speakers with similar type problem? Thanks Last edited by Tempest; 03-07-2009 at 09:24 PM. |

Are you talking about the sides of the room? if so I can't mount on one side because of a huge picture window that takes up the entire back part of the side wall. My only real options is to mount them on the back wall above the sofa which is against the back wall.

Back wall is 11' 5" with a window in the center of it.. there is exactly 4' (48 inches) of wall on both sides of the window. The sofa is 38" on left side from wall and only 15" from wall on right side. |

I would mount them directly above the arm rest of each side on the back wall above the sofa around 2' above you listening position or minimum 1' from the ceiling, typically they should be around 6' from the floor.
I would try to stay at least 3' from the side walls with di-pole speakers or you will get bad reflections. Last edited by Twitch9; 03-07-2009 at 10:18 PM. |

Let us know how it turns out!
I have the same exact problem: Couch against back wall, large windows on the right side and left side opens to the rest of the house (no wall). Will di/bi pole speakers work for me in as the surround in a 5.1 system? |
