My first post...
I have a PS3 and a Harmony 550 remote, and was wanting to be able to control my PS3 with my Harmony 550. I was thinking the Harmony could learn the commands from my old PS2 remote, but my question is, will any of the many USB infrared adapters(which are designed for use with PDA's) on the market be compatible with the PS3? Thanks |

not right now. Hopefully someone will come out with a USB infared sensor to use for BD.

I'm amazed no company's jumped on this opporunity yet. I've emailed Sony to ask them to release one-- perhaps if enough people do, they'll produce one, much like the very delayed PS2 IR/DVD remote bundle

I had seen this posted before as a workaround, but with all the high design Sony put into the PS3, I thought that was just too ugly and cumbersome... if nothing better comes along, I might have to do this, but what I really want is a USB thumb drive sized IR receiver.

I've wondered about this myself, and posted almost the same thread in the past. Always remember the search function, just saying.
I wish they would do so, since I've got the harmony 880, and if it weren't for the ps3 i'd only have one remote. Still, it's just a minor inconvenience, but one for which I would welcome a solution like a usb drive. Right now, I think the attach rate for blu-ray movies to the PS3 (I've got almost 20, and many people on here w/ more movies than I use their ps3 as their BD player, but I only read that the atttach rate is low) is making companies shy away from this. A low attach rate would seem as though not many people use it as a BD (or DVD) player, and therefore not many people would buy such a product. Still, I want one. or maybe, just maybe someone will come out with a hybrid remote! Bluetooth and IR in one. That would be the way to go! I like my bluetooth much more than IR. I like the fact that I don't have to point directly at my PS3 to control it. The only thing better is radio, which hasn't made it's way into many devices, and the popularity of bluetooth could easily push radio out.
