Arrow Green Lantern Will Be More Iron Man Than Dark Knight

After the success of The Dark Knight, most superhero franchises are out to duplicate Batman’s box office by getting grittier and darker. But not everyone. We caught up with producer Donald De Line while out promoting his new movie I Love You, Man, and he says they’re planning to make Green Lantern something more in the mold of Iron Man.

"I'd say it's more akin to Iron Man, where there's definitely serious stakes in the movie, but there's definitely a sense of humor throughout," De Line explained. He also pulled out the old "it's all about the character" line in predicting all the different crap they may put Hal Jordan through in the movies. "I think it's all about the character and what the theme is. You can do dark, you can go more comedic, and I think [the audience will] stay with you.'

i wouldnt mind a serious movie
but an iron man tone wouldnt be bad
or an Incredible Hulk tone i would like

its true that not all superhero movies can mimick the darkknight tone, because, well, all heros are not as dark and brooding and bad*** as batman is, so their movies shouldnt be (example, superman)

but i do NOT want another 80% "humor" Fantastic Four/Silver Surfer tone.....
even though i liked those movies, i dont want to see that in a green lantern movie....

Agree 100% this material will be hard to find the right tone with. Unlike Iron Man there are some supernatural elements that will be a tough sell, if you approached this in a Dark Knight manner those elements would come across as goofy in something as serious and reality grounded as TDK.

They will have the same problem with the Thor movie. I'm counting on that not being good.

just read this on worstpreviews

Quote:
ComingSoon chatted with producer Donald De Line about the upcoming "Green Lantern" movie, which is set to hit theaters on December 17th, 2010.

"Our story is the Hal Jordan origin story, but creating the character of Hal Jordan that is a real character that will resonate with the fanbase is what we need to do," said De Line. "You have to make him credible and somebody to care about and tell a good story, and I think if we do that, we'll be okay."

He continued: "It's going to be a series of big stakes and big action, but it absolutely has a sense of humor. I think people accept real life, even with really serious situations, with humor as part of that situation, as we experience in life, you have to have that. That's how people cope, so they've done it so well in these other movies. I think that people are absolutely ready. It doesn't have to fall on one side of the fence vs the other."

Since Anton Yelchin (Terminator Salvation) was recently falsely rumored to star as Hal Jordan, De Line confirmed that the character will not be cast younger. "Not really, late '20s, early '30s."

Default The Green Lantern Relocation.

hey,

Is the Green Lantern moving from Australia to New Orleans?

With the money issue going on regarding on where to film The Green Lantern Movie, there is this speculation I found, and thought I should share:

Quote:
Update: Not long ago a source mentioned that Green Lantern might be doing some scouting in Louisiana, and I completely spaced it this morning. Same source wrote in just now to say that in fact, the production will shoot in the States next year, likely in or around New Orleans. Does that mean all the work is going to happen here? Not necessarily, but it is a sign that WB at least has a contingency plan. Original article follows.

First up, don’t take anything that follows as a suggestion that Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern isn’t going to happen. It simply may not happen where it was originally scheduled to. Australian site Inside Film reports that “Green Lantern’s proposed Australian shoot is understood to be under threat after the rising Australian dollar has blown out production costs.” What does that mean? Basically, that if Warner Bros. and the Australian government can’t come to some sort of tax break deal, you’ll see Canadian or Eastern European backdrops in the film instead of Australian.

Essentially, the problem is that the value of the Australian dollar has risen quite a bit since this spring. It’s 16% higher now; great for Australians, but not so attractive for US studios that decided to shoot there to take advantage of affordable production. Hey, you think that industry (like film production) flocking to the country has helped their dollar? Probably not by 16%, but every bit helps.

Inside Film says “Warner Bros is understood to be negotiating with the NSW State Government to receive a higher level of concessions in an effort to claw back between $US15 and $US25 million in value eroded by the currency gains.” The complication is that Warner Bros. wasn’t able to lock in their financing months ago when the picture decided to shoot down under. Now they might be left hanging while the new Narnia film and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark are able to shoot with financing packages locked in months ago when the dollar was weaker.

So where do you want to see Green Lantern based, if it can’t be the glorious vistas of Australia? If every other damn picture didn’t seem to be shooting in New Mexico these days I’d say the American Southwest is the ideal location. And probably still is; there’d be real verisimilitude for Hal Jordan’s test pilot character if the film actually shot in areas where that sort of thing took place. What a concept.
Enjoy.

I think the Wolverine movie was too campy to take too seriously. I'm sure others would disagree.

Campy. It wasn't great, still it was better than most movies that came out during the summer.
