Default DVD+R DL with newer LG Bluray Firmware

Hi everyone. The only thing keeping me from buying an LG 6x Writer is that it only writes to DVD+R DL at 4X according to the box. I burn lots of DLs and would not burn that many Blu Ray discs at least for now. Does the newest firmware speed the burning up to say 8x if you use good media like Verbatim?
