Default Buzzing from Receiver Common?

I'll start off by saying that i've never noticed this from my receiver, however, I have not touched it since I bought the thing about 3yrs ago. Today I was in a cleaning mood so I went to town dusting things I never do. In the process i pulled out my Pioneer receiver(VSX-815k) and could hear a humm/buzzing noise from anywhere within about 2 ft of it. This noise is only noticeable when the receiver is turned on so my assumption is that it's just the sound of the currency passing through it but I want to be sure. Is this common or should I get it looked at? I still have a year warranty left on it from Best Buy but I really don't want to disconnect everything but if it could turn into something severe I will.

It sounds like it could be the power transformer inside the unit, i would get it looked at if it's under warranty if it goes it will cost you more to fix it than it would to replace it, i have had this problem with a Yamaha and Sony receiver and in the end sold them for parts and upgraded. It might be nothing but it's not worth taking that chance.

Secretely I've been considering getting a new one anyway . In fact I may buy the refurb Onkyo 606 tonight that's going for $250 on that one site. Not to say that I don't want this to still work. It'd be awesome for a secondary home theater when I move out. I'll definitely take that into consideration and probably get it checked out. Anyone have any experience with BB's in store warranties? I'm afraid that they will have to have it sent out because I dont know if they will service it in the store but i'll have to call and find that out.

Default Buzzing l Definitely Abnormal l

Hello

No audio product, or video product for that matter, should ever be buzzing.

In your situation; perhaps a transformer issue, but most likely it could be poor grounding, poor connections, or getting back to grounding, a ground loop.

Not much help, but definitely you should not have this problem.

My Regards

In your situation; perhaps a transformer issue, but most likely it could be poor grounding, poor connections, or getting back to grounding, a ground loop. Another thought; are you certain that none of your speaker wires are touching; I recommend checking both ends, speaker and receiver.

Not much help, but definitely you should not have this problem.

Having a warranty, I would strongly recommend that if you do not discover anything out of sorts with regards to connections or wiring, I would definitely have it repaired until the problem is resolved completely.

My Regards

i would think they have to send it out for repair but i'm not 100% sure, i know BB fixes computers on site but i don't think the HT products at the store. I would check the grounding try plugging it in to a different power source like jibucha mentioned.

i'll give it a shot, right now it's plugged into a Monster Power Surge HT700 http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...-8&sa=N&tab=wi that thing and all the lights indicate that it's working fine. I'll try another outlet and update this when i do.

Edit: The noise is still present when plugged into a different outlet.
