Default Webcam on Vista question

I'm stuck with a problem. Recently I purchased the Microsoft VX-6000 webcam. I knew Vista wouldn't accept the software as I tried to install it but it did find a solution for that problem. I was directed to the Microsoft website and found the Vista compatible version of the software. I downloaded and installed it (that part went good), but then I ran into some problems. Even though my webcam is plugged in, it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting from my system as I'm running the software that lets me view the webcam to take pictures + videos and such. It stays on for about 3 seconds, then the picture disappears and I get a message saying that the webcam has been unplugged, then 2 seconds later it reconnects again. This can repeat over and over again until a point where it won't even reconnect anymore. I've tried different USB ports on my computer but all have the same problem (one USB port on the back doesn't even recognize it at all). Is this a malfunctioning webcam or a Vista error? Thanks!!
