Default Yamaha 3900/onkyo 876

I want a 140 watt receiver that is in this class. I like the things the yamaha has other than the networking, I really dont care about it. There ar emore things in the yamaha I like, but dont want to spend the extra money on the networking crap.

If you're just looking for the power, why not go with separates, or at least a cheaper receiver with pre-outs?

I like the idea of the great upscaling, and I like the hd radio features. I want to get as much as I can out of a "all in one" for now. Yes I would really like to have a 7 channel 200 watt/ but its not in the cars right now.

I am trying to stay in the 1k-1200 range

Maybe even the onkyo 906.

If you like the 3900, you should check out the RX-V1900. It offers 130 watts x 7 (20Hz to 20kHz, .04%THD), and you can find it online for around $1,000.

The feature set is virtually identical to the 3900, but it doesn't include networking. Plus, you will not hear a loudness difference with just 10 watts less per channel.

I agree with grills, 1900 is the best option for what your looking for IMO.

I have decided i am going with the onkyo 876. It has the burr brown dacs hd radio and 140 watts. It all has a 2 channel front mode that puts out 210 watts. I can buy this for 900 (maybe less when I look into it further) it appears to have many more features than the yammy and more power.

I had a yamaha dvd player and absolutely hated it, even know I have been wanting a yamaha receiver forever. I have had great luck with my onkyo, and was a solid step up from my sony (that I bought in 99)

im not taking anything away from the onkyo (hell i just bought an 806, and had a 605 before that) but the 1900 Yamaha has burr brown DAC's, and HD radio you mentioned so dont let that be a determining factor. The best way to decide is honestly to listen to them both if a shop/store where you live has a setup.

I wish i could but the local bestbuy, is the "walmart" version with no higher end equipment. The local hifi place doesnt like me because I wont pay what he is asking which is usually 30-40% more than i can buy from a full price internet retailer, let alone buy it with a discount coupon.

I wish I could hear the yamaha, but I am going too stick with the onk.

Also some of the reviews about the yammy and the osd and some other quirks, turned me off a little bit. I have finally got used to the onkyo ones after 9 years with the same sony

Thanks again and when i get it I will report back and post up my ht

the lower line yamahas I heard do not let you set crossover points for each set of speakers. the 3900 does. all the onkyos do as well.
