I have been enjoying my BD30 for some time now. In the last few days it has developed a problem. When playing any Blu-ray disc many of the functions on both the remote and player itself will not work. Stop, pause, play, top menu command, all will not work. Open and close works. When a disc is inserted and the drawer closed the player starts to play, but the functions I listed will not work. I can access the setup menu and everything looks ok. I even tried setting all the player settings back to factory default, but that did not eliminate the problem. Interestingly, I tried a burned movie on a DVDR and all of the functions worked. I was not having a problem before I updated to software version 2.8. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I am not sure if this is going to help you out on this one, but I have consistently updated my BD-30 from version 2.5, without running into this sort of trouble.
However, I must point out that from firmware version 2.6 onwards, updates took less than 5 minutes to complete, which suggests that only small parts of the former firmware were replaced. In the 2.8 update procedure I also noticed that a display message said, in a cryptic way, that only the "main" part was loading and updating. The whole process took only 3 minutes. It may be a good idea to contact Panasonic about this and perhaps reinstall an older firmware version with the missing parts, if that is the case. What I know is that BD-Video calls for players loading and running extensive BD-Java codes before playing anything, and this is particularly evident in many newer titles. Some time ago, I made a few AVCHD discs for experimenting, and I tested on both the Panasonic BD-10 and BD-30. After playing those discs (and SD memory, for that matter) both players started to perform erratically, much similar to your player. But nothing that a hard reset wouldn't cure! You can do this yourself by unplugging your player from the AC outlet and waiting at least 10 seconds (I would suggest about 30 sec). If the erratic command behaviour results from memory garbage, the hard reset will provide you with the best cleaning method possible. At any rate, it won't hurt you to try it. |
