I want a 1080 Tv for my living room. This model is for sale on Walmart.com for 788.00 Is it a decent buy? I could get this and a nice stand for less than the 46" Vizio. I was curious if anyone here owns this TV or knows someone who does. I need some opinions.

Honestly, not really. the contrast level is pretty low, and even if the is the ANSI contrast, it is still low, response rate is 8ms, typical of LCDs that are 2-3 years old. Try shopping online and you will get better equipment at really about the same price, and return policies with reputable companies are easy. Try amazon.com, check these out:
Samsung 40" or Samsung 46" or Toshiba 46" or 46" Sharp Just looking on Walmarts website, you can see that the contrast ratio is low compared to others, Sonys is 2500:1, Vizio is 2000:1, and that is Sonys introductory LCD. Personally I would maybe even step down to a smaller TV (40") and get something that would be a better picture, also look at these.... Samsung 720p Plasma or 46" Panasonic Plasma 1080p or Panasonic 50" 720p plasma A 720p plasma will kick the butt of that Polaroid, and once properly broken in you would have a TV that is so much better then that Polaroid. I wouldn't settle on the Polaroid, because the price is low.... you will get what you pay for and with electronics that is always either a good thing or a bad thing..... And don't just get a 1080p because that is the new thing, I have a 32" 720p samsung in my bedroom and that PQ is phenominal from 10-12' away, as good as the 40" 1080p in the living room from 6.5' away. If I were you I would take a very good 720p over a mediocre 1080p anyday. Good luck, I hope I didn't make it harder on you. Last edited by callas01; 03-24-2009 at 05:43 AM. |

I was also looking at this particular TV a few weeks ago, and opted out.
If youre just looking at a 46" 1080p TV, well yea, its a decent price. But if youre buying a TV for more than just those specs, look elsewhere. Like stated before - with electronics, you get what you pay for. I ended up with the 46" Sharp AQUOS and couldnt be happier ![]() |

1000:1 contrast ratio is garbage, 8ms response time on a display is garbage. If you were too watch any fast motion (sports) or just about anything, its going to be all choppy in that movement. On the surface the 1080p, 46" LCD, the price, all sound enticing but under the surface is a crapfest.
PASS. Save your money or shop around. |
