your question is kind of vague, but if im understanding you right, then yes.
i have a external HD that i use to keep a lot of my music and video on for my PC, and i can plug it into the PS3 USB port and copy things off the drive to the HDD on the PS3, and the other way around, you just have to find the movie or music file and press triangle i think to bring up options, then select copy and it will copy the file to the other drive

I'll pose a new question for everyone without starting a new thread then.

What happened to the feature Sony showed a while back where you could just stream a movie straight from the Blu Ray on your PS3 to your PSP wirelessly? Does anyone remember that? Is that still happening? If so, any idea's when?

Okay that was four questions.

lol you serious dude? DRM. If you could do that, the store would make $0. Everyone would just be sharing the movies and shows. You can back them up through Utility, but no transfer.

Once you delete a show or movie, its gone forever. you'd have to re-buy it

For copyright reasons - so you cannot give it to friends/family/internet etc

Weren't they basically referring to digital copy for PSPs? It's already a part of a lot of Sony's newer blu-ray releases, starting with Men in Black iirc. It's a shame the studios will never let Sony make that work with all blu-rays.

yup probably. I really dont see the point of receiving a digital copy with blu-ray if the only thing i can do with it, is look at like this>
