Default nice info from sony repair on kds-60a2000 issue i have

I'd been noticing my color getting gradually more shaded, dark, and somewhat green in tint in the past few months. Bought my set the first part of 2007 with no kind of extended warranty from best buy (was a cheapskate mistake). Anyway, I called a bunch of local tv repair peeps and was told the usual, around 99-139 bucks just to come diagnose it. Decided I'd hit up sony directly and explain my problem and see if they knew anything about it. Turns out the sxrd's are somewhat notorious for this issue and I was told it falls under a specific extended warranty from Sony and that they would send a tech out to repair the "color block" absolutely free as they tend to shift over time and reflect too much of one hue of light. Called them only a few days ago, and I already got the call this morning from the repairman letting me know he'd be out this afternoon as the part arrived sooner than expected! Pretty sweet info all around, and I can't be happier with sony stepping up to the plate for it's customers. IF anybody else has had, or ever does have this issue in the future please keep my info in mind as it'll save you a great deal.

John

My stepdad has a 60" sxrd Sony set but I don't remember the model number off hand.

If you have any info about the issue in the form of a service bulletin or something like that it would be fantastic info to share. Also how did you go about contacting Sony?

Thanks,

=Brian

The green blob ALWAYS comes back. Even his little brother the purple blob!

Looks like Sony was required to step up. My poor sister-in-law's SXRD is on her second optical block and it is now showing the signs again. A shame because the picture was incredible before that.

thanks for the info house....i put myself on the lawsuit mailing list....I'll cross my fingers that it holds out for the next year or two with this new block and something gets settled where I'll get a nice trade-in offer as settlement, or just straight up credit towards another Sony tv. For now the picture is great, and I'm very thankful that the lawsuit has at least gotten the ball rolling for them to ship out new parts and install them for free.
