Default Movies you have seen on an HD channel and your thoughts

Just this past weekend, I saw Flintstones (live-action/John Goodman), both American Tails on HBO Family HD, and Spaceballs on Starz HD (I think). A few weeks ago, I caught Batman Returns on a HD movie channel as well.

Flintstones looked absolutely beautiful in HD. Seriously, it had to be one of the top ten HD movies I've seen. Can't wait for its Blu release.

Batman Returns looked great. Makes me want to get the set. Spaceballs was very good. Lots of great details I never noticed before.

The American Tails looked alright. They weren't exactly the best HD transfers, but they looked nice. The second one looked great.

All in all, loving HD movie channels. What kind of movies have you've seen on a HD channel?

A few weeks ago I caught The Outlaw Josey Wales, one of my favorite Westerns, on one of the HD channels. It looked great, and made me want it on Blu that much more.

BATMAN (1989):

Turned it off after about 15 minutes, because there was NO detail to the image at all. I've heard that the Blu-ray does look fairly good, so I hope that what I saw (on HDNet) isn't an indication of what the BD looks like.

WAYNE'S WORLD:

Looked great. I doubt I'll be getting it on BD, but if the image looks as good on disc as it did on TV, it'll be just fine.

FALLING DOWN:

Looked like it was an upconverted DVD.

I think this should go in the Movies and TV discussion area but anyway, I've seen several movies on Universal HD, AMC HD, etc. Sometimes they look pretty good (look like they're actually HD), sometimes they don't. I've often wondered if the HD TV presentation is an indicator of how the blu-ray will look or if they're completely unrelated.

I can't think of one that didn't look good.

All the Lord of the Rings look great.

Austin Powers 3.

Outlaw Josey Wales.

Unforgiven.

Open Range.

Those are ones I've seen recently that looked great.

A lot has to do with the provider as well. Universal HD is good. TNT is the worst. DVD looks better than some of the stuff they pass off as HD.

I've found HDNET to be the best HD channel when it comes to older programming. It is obvious they spend the time and money to get the best picture possible. TNT and TBS are by far the worst when it comes to HD.

I also saw Josey Wales recently. It looked good but I definitely hope they re-master/restoration before it comes to blu. There a few scenes that had noticeable scratches & dirt.

Saturday Night Fever looked great on HDNET.

I've been pleasantly surprised with Spike HD's showings of various Star Wars titles over the past year. It looked exactly how you would expect HD to look. It also made the special blu light on my receiver light up. I love that little light.

I saw Ratatouille on StarsHD over the weekend. It looked better than a DVD, but certainly not Blu-Ray quality at all.

Shaun of the Dead looks good on HD channels. Even ghostbusters looked so much better on a HD channel.

when I see a movie that looks good on a HD channel I think that it should be a good transfer on blu, is this retarded logic?

Well what everyone has to remember is that irrespective of whether an HD channel is using an upconverted print or a native HD print, they are still using television masters that are edited for time and content and these may be in substantially different condition (either for better or worse) than an uncut master from a studio. So while your theory is a good benchmark, I wouldn't say it goes hand in hand for every film.
