Default Trouble with Samsung P-1000

I have a first generation BD player (Samsung P-1000), but can’t watch three new movies (Brokeback Mountain, Sideways and Indiana Jones). I have installed all of the latest firmware updates (last one, according to this site, was almost 10 months ago). I went to Best Buy and asked Geek Squad and they had no solution. Can anyone help? It is interesting to note that other movies, although they play, take a long time to start up and make strange and distorted sounds when picking options on the menu screen. Please email me with your thoughts or ideas to correct the problem. Thanks

My friend as the BP-1400 and he's been having all sort of trouble with it. He as finaly gave up and will be getting a Sony this coming Saturday. Not sure what to tell you, I have the 1500 and I never had any major trouble with it but it seem the previous ones were not that great. I am also thinking to making a change to Sony

There's really nothing you can do to the player to get it to work. You can try to clear the memory trick (reset the machine). That worked on some discs, but you'll have to run your setup again (it resets all your settings back to factory settings).

You probably don't want to hear this, but the best thing you can do is get rid of it and buy something else, preferably not another Samsung. I had the same player and it was nothing but a nightmare. Every time I put a disc in it was hit and miss (mostly miss) as to whether it would play. Support was crappy, updates were few and far between and some updates created more issues than they fixed. The loading times were terrible, and especially frustrating when you would sit for 5 minutes or more waiting for the movie to load, and then get the "this disc cannot be played message" across the screen. I got rid of mine and haven't missed it at all.

Good luck.

I'm afraid it may be time for a new machine. I had a Phillips BDP 9000,...which is the same machine as the Samsung P 1000. They just don't have the hardware to handle the new BD specs. You can try one thing though that may help for a while. Phillips just put out a firmware update for the BDP 9000. It should work on your Samsung. I used Samsung's firmware for many months on the Phillips, before selling it,.....because it was the latest available for either machine. The players are the same hardware wise,...chipset etc.

Here's a link to that file if you are interested.

Good luck............
