Just received 2010 from PlayUSA and the cover, much to my annoyance, is dual language as it's Canadian sourced.
Have Warner always done this? I'm sure I've other Warner R1 Blu's that are in English only. ![]() I realise that some distributors choose to package Canadian releases with French/English covers but didn't realise Warner was one of them! No, it doesn't make any real difference, the disc (in this case) is still the same...but to me the cover just looks cheap and messy! Why not print all French on one side and all English on the other? Anyway, just for your information! ![]() Matt |

Ever since some point around spring or summer 2007, Warner Bros. has been releasing all Blu-rays in Canada with the English and French packaging. I recall this because The Departed does not have the bilingual packaging but 300 does. One rare exception I find is the Ultimate Matrix Collection, but other than that I can't recall any other non-bilingual release of recent months.

But do bilingual customers like the look of the covers? Isn't is a bit much having some/most/all of the text in English and again in French? In some cases (pardon the punn!) because there's so much info. on the back cover in particular, and it's dual language, you can barely read the text because it's so small!
![]() Anyway, I'm not anti-dual language releases, I just think they could be presented better! ![]() Matt |

Warner's Canadian issued Digibooks don't have bilingual text, thankfully.

This is a region based thing and ALL companies do it, Fox, WB, Alliance, etc, the bilingual cases are intended for the Canadian Market and are being sourced to the US by companies like iNet video and now Play. You will never get one from a a US based retailer(Best Buy,WM, TRT or AMZ shipped orders) I wouldnt even worry about this unless you import from Amazon.ca or other import e-tailers

The bilingual packaging is something that drives me nuts up here. I only buy a movie in stores now if it's one I don't care of the packaging (or the one's that say Version Francais Incluse in tiny print under the English title, which is tolerable) or am really desperate to get (like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight). Otherwise, I buy it online. Amazingly enough though, my girlfriend managed to find me a boxset of 40-Year-Old Virgin/Knocked Up/Forgetting Sarah Marshall at the local Wal-mart that was NOT bilingual. And my local Futureshop has copies of King Kong that are also not bilingual that I will probably buy soon.

Not a fan of the cluttered look either. I recall that some of the TV series on DVD (notably Buffy & Angel) were sold with French slips over English cases. I thought this was a nice way to present as a user could shelve their sets displayed in the language of their choice.
PS. To maximize confusion, try playing the LOTR version of Risk on a bilingual board! ![]() |

Its already been done with videogames. I even seen some with Tri-lingual amount of languages on the cover with a couple of videogames. It would have like English, Spanish, and who knows what other languages. Some games don't even tell you on the cover on what the game is about because of all of the languages on the cover art.

Don't really know why the bilingual covers bother some people. I am more concerned with the PQ, AQ, and extras that are included. However, I do understand that some people desire uniformity in their collections.

I have gotten plenty of bilingual covers of titles and I dont see the issue at all.
The boxes sit on the shelf with just the title showing on the spine, I dont spend my day looking a blu ray box admiring the design and artwork I have more important things to do like watch what comes in the box which is what I bought to begin with. The whole thing about being collectors items and all that is a waste of time, we had collectors editions VHS and laserdiscs which are now defunct formats that only hardcore collectors still have machines to play them on, dvd's will eventually head that way as will Blu Ray when digital downloads become the norm. |

In Quebec it has to be in French, but there are no laws for movies right now. Studios just want to please everyone at lower costs, instead of making 2 different packages. Richer studios like Disney now makes a French packaging for Quebec.

Hey!
![]() Can I just clear something up? My original thread header has been changed by a moderator! I set it up as (something like this, as I've now forgotten!) 'Warner dual language covers. Oh, no!' Clearly, this was offensive/misunderstood and someone changed it. I was merely stating my opinion that I didn't like the dual language cover on my latest Blu from Warner. It surprised me as I hadn't had a dual lang. Warner title before. Honestly, I am in no way concerned, worried, upset, suicidal or otherwise about it! I can assure you I slept soundly last night - without any impending fear for my health! Actually, I did wake up a couple of times to cough but I think I'll live! ![]() I really didn't mean any offence to bilingual speakers, etc. Really don't know why the header was changed. ![]() The new header is a bit much as it suggests dual language covers 'concern' me. Seriously, they don't! ![]() I would just prefer to have my Blu covers in one language - and as I am a native English speaker, English is the language I prefer. ![]() Anyway, Mr (Miss, Mrs?) Moderator please take no offence at this post as it is not intended ![]() Matt Ps. If I could re-type the above in French, I would! ![]() Pps. I LOVE USING THE SMILIES!!!! ![]() |

The only concern to me is, and this obviously would apply to online purchases, are you getting what you paid for? The bilingual bothers some, and is irrelevent to others, but the bottom line is that clearly you weren't expecting to receive that version. If you go back to your source and it's advertised otherwise through a picture or text, you have a legitimate reason to be annoyed.
