Default Setup Advice

Hi, I hope I'm putting this in the correct area.

I have a Sony S350 Blu Ray Player, I have the video going over HDMI to my Sony HDTV. The sound is going to my older sound system over Toslink. Currently when I am playing a movie it sends the sound over hdmi to the TV, and over Toslink to the Sound System. Can I set it up to only go to the sound system? I don't want to have to always set the sound output on the tv to Sound System that way it doesn't try coming out of the TV.

Question 2. If it is coming into the TV over HDMI, and my TV has a Toslink out put can I use that to send the sound over Toslink from the TV instead of wiring it from the player?

Thanks for the answers.

it depends on your tv and what it will send out. not all tvs will do whats expected. is usually always best to send audio directly to the receiver from the player. there should be no reason why you cannot set up the audio and video for different connections. check the manual

Most TV's only output 2.0 Dolby from their TosLink port.

In order to get correct 5.1 surround, you should connect the optical out from the BD player to your receiver and the HDMI to your TV. If it doesn't auto sense the correct connection, there should be a setting in the BD player that tells it where to send the audio stream.
