Default Is Shop Onkyo Reliable?

Hello all,

I hope this is the appropriate forum for this question.

This afternoon I was finally able to resolve a repair/service issue with now-defunct Circuit City involving an Onkyo 506 which I had purchased from them a while ago. I also purchased their extended warranty-it was $30 for three years- and have since had to send my receiver off for service once, and am now having another issue. The company that is handling their outstanding warranties decided to just cut me a check for the amount I paid for the receiver, which is what CC probably would have done given the repetitive issue I am dealing with, so I am going to be getting money to buy a replacement.

So, I was looking around and noticed several places in this forum that listed sites where one can purchase referb receivers for good prices, and most folks I read from mentioned being very pleased with the products they purchased. I was wondering, however, if anyone has any experience buying the product directly from Onkyo @ shoponkyo.com.

They have some very good prices, but my money is really tight at the moment and this is going to be my only shot at getting a receiver anytime soon, so I don't want to buy something that is going to poop out in a year.

So, has anyone had any experience with ShopOnkyo?
Has anyone purchased something from them that had a problem? If so, how was it handled.

Thanks for any help that you can offer!

p.s. I did use the search option to look through the forums, but searching for Onkyo brings lots of results. If there is a thread I missed that adresses this, I'll gladly take a link!

shoponkyo is very reputable, and right now you can get 10% when you create a new account, so is an excellent option.

I opted to go with dell and get the yamaha V663 for the same price onkyo wanted for there refurb

I pulled the trigger on the 706 when they had the St. Pat's Day sale (it ran for 5 days that week I think, ending on the Sunday). Since I already had an Onkyo (505) prior, I received an additional 10% on top of their sale. I ended up saving $64.90 I think it was and only paid $430.10 for the Refurb'd 706. Some may have noted a small nick or whatever on theirs, but maybe I was lucky as I didn't notice any marks at all - and I went over it closely, believe you me. Anyway, so far, so Great.

Like any new piece of equipment, you have to tweak it and experiment (& READ the manual even if you think you know a lot, like I did foolishly), and the Audyssey is a good starting point as well. It came packaged to protect it, perfect condition, has a (limited) 1-yr Warranty. One thing a member here noted, was to click on the $2.99 "Priority Order" (or Expedite order--you'll see the option at the checkout area). This entitled my order to ship out on the Monday from the order placed Friday, and it only took 3 days to arrive, coming that Thursday!

So long story short, MY experience with them was excellent. No problems, no issues.

Shop Onkyo is the companies store. You can't get more reputable than that.
