Trying to figure out what the problem is when playing back DVD vs. Blu Ray.
I have a Sony BDP-S550 hooked up via an optical cable to my Marantz receiver for audio only. The video is hooked up directly via HDMI to my Sony Bravia TV. I have a tendency to leave my TV audio on as well as my surround sound channels while watching movies, and with Blu-Ray don't notice any problems, but if I pop in a DVD there seems to be a delay in the audio signal between. Does this have something to do with the decoding going on in my receiver vs. the TV? Any info would be usefull. Thanks. |

you might be able to set-up your sony player to disable audio via HDMI (a feature on some players) or there may be a setting for optical audio only. I'd try that and make sure your not sending audio out on both. some players as will have a setting for auto or mix. if you have an option under audio that list HDMI, optical, digital coax---if you are using optical then select "optical only" if such exist. i can't really think of any reason you would be audio issues. now that's one thing as far as another reason why you are getting the delay with dvd and not with blu-ray do you mean there is a lip/sync issue or it takes a little while for the audio to start when using a dvd but it is sync'd properly, which are you referring to? It really shouldn't make a difference because if your using optical out all you'll get from blu-ray or dvd is dd or dts core and you may also get the option for pcm stereo. I think we need more info on your stuff and more details about what you are calling a "delay between" in your post.

Yes, there seems to be a delay between the receiver audio output vs. the tv audio output (if I run both at the same time). This is only when I play standard DVD's though, it doesn't happen when I play Blu Ray discs.

Turn down or mute your TV volume when listening to your receiver.

new to the blu-ray and home theater thing. have a yamaha 6.1 receiver with a long list of sound options - pro logic, dolby, dts and variations thereof. just wondering when setting up the system for optimal sound reproduction with dvd's and bd's what would be the highest and best quality sound setup? i mean is dts better than dolby or vice versa. if you had to rate diferent sound "systems" what would the list look like from best to "worst"? tyvm
or did i make a booboo (ie. hijacking a thread?) |
