Default Gore Verbinski (director) Passes on PIRATES 4

Quote:
Variety is reporting that director Gore Verbinski, whose main claim to fame came from directing Disney's blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean" action-adventure trilogy to gross $2.6 billion worldwide, has decided that three pirate movies is enough. He's informed Disney and producer Jerry Buckheimer that he won't be directing the fourth installment, which is currently scheduled to start shooting in 2010.

Verbinski told the trade: "I had a fantastic time bringing 'Pirates' to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team. I'm looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future."

Instead, Verbinski will focus on his adaptation of the bestselling video game BioShock for Universal Pictures, which is expected to start production in 2010 based on a script by John Logan.

Wow, didn't see this coming, but good for him for moving on to other projects. I am curious to see how many of the original cast will return with a new director attached (Keira Knightley already stated a long time ago she wasn't coming back again). Who would you like to see directing 4 (if there ever is one)? Anyone want a 4?

Wow, he turned down a huge paycheck. You know they offered him a truck full for part 4.

Yep....who knows what will happen now. I know Keira said she wasn't coming back, and the possibilities before talked about doing it with Depp and Rush as lead characters...

I think they should just pass on the project all together. Leave it as a trilogy.

I kind of think they should leave it a trilogy. I thought the story wrapped up pretty nicely with the 3rd one. That being said, they know they'll make a ton of money with another one even if it's a stinker, so they'll make it.

Maybe that is his intent. Instead of ruining a series ( :cough: Spider-man :cough: ), he is trying to kill it by ensuring key parts can't exist. Maybe Depp will be the next one to drop out, and then Disney can make a straight-to-video crapfest and we can ignore it all the same.

I think they should stop at 3, while I love the movies and I suppose I would still see a 4th one, it sort of wrap up nicely at 3.

Are you sure Heavy Metal is going to be a remake? I hope not. Maybe it will just be another installment the way Heavy Metal 2000 was.

Same here

I honestly thought CotBP was the best, and steadily declined with each subsequent film. I just thought the screentime for each of the characters in the first was best. I just thought the subsequent ones tried too hard.

I'd be very happy if this remained a trilogy.

I thought the next batch of movies were going to be prequels, which is why no Keira, Bloom, etc. anyway...

The Godfathers are good movies but I like a lot of other gangster films more, guess everyone has different tastes.

As much as I hate to say it I agree. I was really looking forward to a 4th. But without Gore I'd rather they just leave it as a trilogy rather than hire someone else on just to screw it up.
